GOG Galaxy, HowLongtoBeat and the always trustful excel spreadsheet. After 3-4 years of battling my backlog, I have only 80 games left to end it (adding more than 500 games to the "never gonna play" category helped a little bit). I can almost imagine me buying a game again or reading the books sitting on my shelves for 10 years (my 2nd backlog, much smaller enemy).

I also have a book backlog... and a board game backlog... and a movie backlog... we just started a game of backlog golf on our discord server and that has been super helpful for people. Best of luck!

Love the video. I think GOG Galaxy should accept being THE platform for handling your games and backlog progression, but they are still fighting on Steam and Epic Games ground as a game distributor.

I've used HLTB since January of 2020 and the difference it made was huge. Maybe I'm just used to the website at this point, but I don't find it clunky or cumbersome to use at all. You can sort and categorize your backlog in a huge number of ways and I love looking at my game stats. One other amazing benefit is the forums, which you glossed over. There are always interesting conversations going on and it makes beating your backlog so much more engaging because you're not doing it alone but with the entire community.

TBH I didn't realize HLTB has forums. Good point that I missed. I'm going to look into that now, thanks!

I used GOG, but with my current library it was lagging, and decided that I wanted even more customization. Then I started a google sheet, EXTREMELY detailed backlog, and it is absolutely perfect for my needs. It not "pretty", but it is SO functionnal and adapted to what I want to track.

Thanks for this informative video. I've been experimenting with a bunch, but I think Grouvee is probably the best for "gaming updates" and HowLongToBeat is best for cataloging and determining what to play next. This is always changing though. I like the Trello idea too.

I tried a few of these throughout the years but in the end, I reverted back to the spreadsheet (Google Sheets actually). The least attractive of the options, sure. Also the most work intensive of the bunch, as you have to input the data manually. But it is the most customisable. I can filter to criteria that matter to me. e.g. If I want to filter my games to be "3rd person action games on PC that are compatible with 21:9 aspect ratio, hdr, have surround sound and run with an uncapped frame rate", then I can. For data crunching I use the pivot tables.

great videos! what we do with some pc friends is similar to the other video (we make a monthly dashboard with which games are you playing, and update if you beat some one) you can join someone if there is a coop game and by the end of the month we make a summary and by the end of the year we buy a game key for the winner

Unfortunately, not as far as I know. I think Nintendo is pretty defensive about these kinds of things, so you'll have to do it manually. I'm sure there is some kind of illicit backdoor you could do on your switch to get this data exported, but I know nothing about that!
