Hi there!! :) I still don't understand how to change their food died!! 🤔 We got our conure from a pet store, and they said that he eats seeds. But we know that is wrong, so we are trying to get him to eat pellet and chop but we are failing...!😕 What is the trick to that? 🤔 So we can give him seeds on the training!

Have you guys tried Oat Spray as a treat at all? I hear some smaller parrots who don't seem to keen on millet love oat spray. Also do you have a video on figuring out what your parrots favorite treat might be? Like do you just put a line up up several things, apart from each other, and which one they eat first is the one to use? Do that several times to see if it is not a fluke, mix the spots up so it isn't just a reflex, hide them under cups next to turn it into a foraging game? Do you have a list of options to try or something of the sort? What is better to use. Seed, fruit, nuts? All 3 of those can be considered a treat option to some species of parrot.

Oat spray isn't too readily available over here so I haven't found any yet! It sounds like it would be a fun treat! Yes absolutely - give them a line up or little dish and see what they pick out first, try it a few times and go from there! Some birds can indeed like multiple treats - I have worked with many where we would prepare a little pot with a variety of seeds, nuts, fruit and pulses! Any combination of goodies is fine as long as they aren't given as part of their main diet - I wouldn't go for a jog to earn a doughnut if I have some already in my kitchen! In my experience, top treats for smaller species: millet, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds. For larger birds: dried fruit, sunflower seeds, brazil nuts and almonds!

@@BirdNerdSophie Good to know, haven't tried a lot of things yet. Budgies, and Buddy seem to love millet. I'd love to try out some new things though. Buddy will take sunflower seeds, but doesn't seem to interested in them. Safflower, about the same, he will take 1 or 2. Was thinkin of trying some nuts, chopped down into smaller pieces. What nuts have you guys tried? Do your boys like nuts at all? I read hazelnuts, walnuts, pecans. I get them organic for snacks myself. So was curious if they would take it if I offered. Found out my 1 budgie loves sting cheese by accident lol. I made sure she only got hold of a very very tiny piece. I just need to make sure that doesn't fall out of my mouth again. Do you find you eat a little healthier when your birds are around, just in case they try to sneak something from your bowl, plate, or hands?

@@angsfeatheredfriends You can definitely give nuts a go but none of my flock like any and I've tried all of the common ones apart from pine nuts! The only one I would strongly be against trying is peanuts (though they aren't technically nuts, they're legumes!) Lol I think all animals like dairy, they just can't digest it so always good to avoid where possible. No my diet is pretty terrible though I am trying to improve it! We don't really share food with the birds as it creates bad habits, but very occasionally we might share some fruit - Pickles goes crazy over pineapple!

@@BirdNerdSophie Yea, I knew about them being lactose intolerant. Then some places say dairy is ok in very tiny amounts. I know hard cheese contain very little lactose. So hard to weed out misinformation sometimes. I hate veggies myself, I was going to try and take the sprouted seeds I make for the birds like a pill lol just toss some into my mouth and drink a lot of water. Cannot wait to see how my birds take to the sprouts. I got Buddy on video this morning in such a great mood. His singing sessions are pretty short normally. I do catch him doing this sometimes when I am out of the room now too. Just have to be really patient with a rescue it would seem. Knowing where he had been for 6 years, I just wanted him to be happy to fast I suppose. He does do some flying to me as well. I didn't even notice that I was recall training like you at all. I use a full hand of fingers when I call him. But if it is just a step up I use 1 finger. Good visual ques to keep separate I guess? :D I had to do his flying a bit different and very very slowly because of the medical issues he came with as well. Poor guy had some respiratory issues from living in a room that was caked in cologne 24 / 7. As well as obesity and fatty liver. What are your guys thoughts on harness training for outside time with cockatiels? I can never let him free fly outside because of the eagle, hawks, and owls all over. Would love to see him get outside when the weather is nice though.

@@angsfeatheredfriends I love veggies, I;m just terrible at cooking haha! It might take them a while to get used to sprouts but keep offering them! I'll take a pee at your video later! We also usually offer a single finger for stepping up! Poor little bird, it's great that he now has a loving forever home! Harness training can definitely be a good option but it depends how scared he is! Our boys would freak out as they are scared of birds flying past the window! We started training Pickles on the harness but she had a massive spook and is now terrified of it so I'm having to desensitise her right from the beginning!

I really loved this vid❤️ the only thing that I have a problem with is that my sun conure hates my hand or fingers specially so he Steps up on my arm and flys back to either my arm or shoulder perfectly. Any suggestions to getting the bird comfortable with the hands or fingers also he was rescued and I have trained him but I’m guessing he was abused by the previous owners and he built up his disassociation with hands or fingers but is perfectly find on my arms and shoulder.
