Fantastic video and product I didn’t realize just how far out of wack my Machine was until I got this traming tool and followed this video

I like your technique, and the indicator holder looks nice too. Thanks for putting this together, very informative.

Looks like I've got my work cut out for me this weekend. Thanks for the info! I have been dreading making that adjustment in the Y axis, didn't think about shimming the whole sled there.

love the video. as far as beefing up the xrail, Do you thing inserting a piece of maple inside of the rail would stiffen it enough.

Nice explanation! I've seen other tramming videos but they didn't go into the detail that you did. And I've seen people use glass before, but not on the same point. They never moved the spindle's location. I'm definitely hitting you up for the indicator mount. And I've been wanting to do the Makita upgrade for a while, so I'll be needing that sleeve also.

awesome, i also work with machining and agree with this method! Also, i agree the fastener kit that came with this machine sucks soooooo bad! i dont get it because it probably would have costed $20 for quality components and they chose to send soft button heads and crap t nuts...

Since this upgrade inventables now offers these upgrades to their standard 1000x1000 machine. They have also added T-tracks to the package. If you have the old 1000x1000 here is the link for their upgrades. www.inventables.com/categories/machine-upgrades/x-carve-upgrades

Great video. What's that indicator called or link to buy? Edit: Nevermind I thought the etsy part was just the plastic add on. Looks like it comes as a unit.

Wait, you did all that. The clamps, the shims, just to adjust 1/4 of a 64th in 12in? On a 30 in work area. What in the world are you carving out of wood? 4 1000ths? That's serious ocd man. 😂 Im no machinist, but my dad was a millwright. I have his starret indicators. But I hardly know how to use them. You only squared the Z. I use a pencil in the collect and the 3,4,5 method to square my X axis. Can you show us how to square the X with your tool and indicator? Or try to explain it here. Im looking for an easier and more reliable way to square my machine. Reading a tape is too subjective and is too prone to error. Especially measuring the corners of a work area that has no place to secure the tape end and spans over 54in. Thanks. Good content

I bought my x carve preowned and already put together. When I lower the bit to the touch plate in the close left corner, its basically at "0" lets say. Without moving my z axis, I run the bit over to the right close corner, the bit is .028 higher. Is there a way to adjust this?

Why you are describing to me is your bed isn’t flat. My suggestion is to add a sacrificial board (3/4 thick MDF) and surface that board with the machine.
