A couple of things: you should be double cleansing to remove all makeup. A toner should never be used to get rid of excess makeup! That means that you're cleanser is not doing it's job and you need to double cleanse! Also, thank you for mentioning some really fantastic products!!! The Ordinary is my favorite skincare brand next to Cerave. I have the same skin type as you and I know what it's like to have sensitive and dry skin! I appreciate the content but make sure you put facts out there!!

Thanks for the video! It actually enticed a few questions ☺️ Did you realise you had it while on a whole foods vegan diet? Or just while being on a standard vegan diet? And how long did it take before it cleared? I’ve been vegan for just over a year (and I LOVE it only regret not being vegan sooner) and since the new year I have started eating more whole foods diet (I’d say like 80-90% of what I eat is wholefoods?) So it’s important for me to make sure all aspects of my life are vegan so thank you for all the suggestions for products! 🙌

Thank you Molly! That’s exactly why I wanted to make a video since as a vegan as well, the other videos had products with animal ingredients / tested on animals. Hope this was helpful! Lots of love

ok so I’ve had these bumps on my forehead since 5th grade so about four years now. I’ve tried so many acne products and realized not one thing was working. I researched it and found results showing i most likely had fungal acne. Everything looked the same as what I had. Although I noticed that almost everyone was saying how their fungal acne was itchy but mine isn’t. So does that mean I don’t have fungal acne and this product won’t work? Or is it normal for it to not itch sometimes? Please someone help me outtttt😩😩😩❤️

That product might have had some malassezia triggering ingredients like glycerin, fatty acids, fatty alcohols, esters, polysorbates, etc. Squalane oil is one of three oils suitable for fungal acne. Highly recommend The Ordinary products mentioned in this video but since malassezia grows on almost everything, it’s important to be careful with any new products!

Hi.. i need to know that vanicream gentle cleanser contains glycerine ... nd i searched on sezia website .. glycerin can also trigger fungal acne.. is it so?
@SabrinaKoundakjian
4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately yes glycerin is a malassezia triggering ingredient; however, I’ve found no issues using the vanicream cleanser. Since there is no oil, there is glycerin in almost all of the products from my research. Though I don’t think the contents are significant enough to cause fungal outbreak. Also, the glycerin is vegetable based rather than animal based which might have some different effects too. I would recommend trying the vanicream for a few weeks and seeing how your skin reacts, if you have any issues, the website I provided in the description has a whole list of other malassezia safe products. Personally, I’ve noticed that some products I use contain glycerin, but haven’t found real issues with them. I was more sensitive to fatty acids, oils, esters, coconut oil, fragrance and polysorbates.

The Salicylic Acid and Alpha Arbutin 2% products from The Ordinary both contain ingredients (such as Polysorbate-20) which will 100% trigger the growth of malasezzia even in low concentrations so be very careful when using those. I personally have been using Squalane Oil and Niacinamide for about a month, maybe longer for the Squalane oil, and they honestly work great! Niacinamide definitely reduces sebum production but I would recommend using a moisturiser after using the oil because, although it's great, it doesn't fully provide the benefits a moisturiser does. Give CeraVe's Moisturising Cream a try, it's a great one! P.S. I'm not a dermatologist or skin dr. either, this is just what's worked for me personally and a few of my friends as well so I'm just sharing my recommendations. :))
@SabrinaKoundakjian
4 жыл бұрын
Alpha Arbutin 2% does contain a malassezia triggering ingredient so I avoid applying it on areas like my forehead or chin, I’ll usually keep it around the upper lip area. I came across CeraVe as well but unfortunately it is not vegan as it contains cholesterol.
@preryana6142

@@SabrinaKoundakjian Give the QV Intensive Cream a try. It does contain Glycerin which may or may not trigger the growth of the yeast (it's the 4th ingredient on the list) but it is vegan. It's more for very dry skin but it does hydrate A LOT! Side note though: don't use Squalane oil with it because you'll end up looking like a glazed doughnut like me :) Maybe use it at night only and use Squalane oil during the day. Hope this helps

Just a fair warning, Vanicream Cleanser has a pH of 7-7.5 (the company themselves stated it). The Thayers is fine but I suggest getting the unscented one or the cucumber one since Rose Flower is technically fragrance which can cause sensitivity. The TO Arbutin one has Castor oil which yeast thrives on which is a shame since its hard to find an Alpha Arbutin product (not regular Arbutin or Beta Arbutin [Alpha is more potent vs Beta]).
@SabrinaKoundakjian
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the Thayer's toner in the video is scented, but I do have another fragrance-free one! I found that the alpha arbutin does contain malassezia triggering ingredients too, so I avoid putting it on areas where I'm prone to breaking out. It's great for evening out skin discoloration; therefore, I just keep it away from the t-zone.

I would actually argue that people with dry skin are more susceptible to getting fungal acne/malassezia because of the broken / weak skin barrier. Moisturizer is key for this skin issue because FA thrives in a compromised skin environment.

You can cleanse both day/night and follow it up with the squalane serum. Additionally, you can use the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA by The Ordinary after the squalane for extra moisture. Avoid using Niacinamide in conjunction with other products because I find that it doesn't work as effectively and can leave an unusual residue. I suggest using the Alpha Arbutin & Niacinamide on separate occasions for the purpose of treatment, not so much incorporated into an everyday skincare routine. Hope this helps!
@SabrinaKoundakjian
4 жыл бұрын
But if you are looking to use the serums at the same time, you would go ahead and do that prior to the squalane serum. Just allow ample time for each product to set in the skin before moving on to the next step in your skincare routine!

Yes! Niacinamide or vitamin B3 especially with the combination with Zinc can help regulate oil production in the skin.

Love this video!! I recently switched to the products you mentioned so I’m hoping to see a change in my skin in the next few months. Btw - I checked out that website’s list of moisturizers and actually saw that they listed the Tatcha Water Cream!

Thank you! Hope you see improvement in your skin! And I’m surprised they have Tatcha’s Water Cream... I wouldn’t use it anyway since there is fragrance and other ingredients the skin can develop sensitivity to but thank you for letting me know!

I used ordinary HA 2%+B5 and mositurizer plus squalene cleanser..and got these bumps and when i checked it on sezia it had so many malasezzia growth triggering ingredients

Yes! The HA + B5 is good to use with fungal acne, but the squalane cleanser is a nope :( broke me out as well.

Thank you for commenting! I would say the squalane serum itself is 100% sezia safe because the only ingredient is plant-derived squalane; however, some of the other serums/moisturizers have polysorbates, esters, glycerin, etc., which are not necessarily bad ingredients just not great for fungal acne! I have found that some sezia triggering ingredients have more impact than others and it differs from person to person! I would say use the vanicream gentle facial cleanser instead of the squalane cleanser and use pure squalane right after. Hope this helps!

@SabrinaKoundakjian

I would go with the niacinamide + zinc serum after the oil because it’s a thicker serum!

Hello dear . I need advice I have problem with fungal acne . Which is best whitening or brightening cream is best for dark spots please ..
@SabrinaKoundakjian

I don’t personally recommend skin lightning products as they can be harsh for the skin. I experienced dark spots from FA after they went away as well; however, my advice would be to use salicylic acid products to clear the acne and religiously moisturize with squalane to heal discolouration naturally. I’ve found the Aztec healing clay mask to help with dark spots...you can find it on Amazon and it’s super affordable! From the two options you listed though, brightening products are usually healthier than whitening depending on the ingredients.

Have you ever been on antibiotics?
@SabrinaKoundakjian

I have not been on antibiotics for the purpose of skin if that’s what you’re asking! After going WFPB, I haven’t taken antibiotics or any other medications besides a weekly B12 supplement!

I have the same condition and it was caused by a heavy 7-10 day round of antibiotics. I never had these same symptoms as you, in my life, until shortly after having finished the course. I don't believe a trip to Armenia, or a place with an adverse climate, is enough to trigger this. I believe something else has to predispose you for it.

Could be! There are so many triggering factors pertaining to Malassezia. A few years prior, before going vegan I was having some tonsillitis issues; therefore, I went on antibiotics. I’m glad I’ve got it under control now.

Sabrina, is there any azelaic acid product that is malassezia safe you would recommend?
@SabrinaKoundakjian
4 жыл бұрын
I know The Ordinary has an Azelaic Acid product; however, it has some malassezia triggering ingredients, i.e., polysorbates and esters. I have found that some of these ingredients irritate more than others based on skin type and some are not sensitive to those properties. You can either try it with caution and see what happens or do my personal favourite, use apple cider vinegar diluted in water as a toner, it works miracles for inflammation, bacterial infection and fungal growth.
