I am a 75 year old male. I have always been active. I am a dyi’er, and gardener. Three weeks ago I had my first, ever, sciatic nerve pain. I haven’t been able to get better doing some stretches others told me about. I started looking at your vlog this morning and after doing them, I can feel the improvement. I will continue doing these stretches, it will continue looking at all your other videos and incorporate the stretches you show into a regular morning routine. Thank you ever so much.

@@kathybates1751 I've stopped using my chiropractor because I didn't like what they were telling me. Red flag #1 - they didn't recommend me seeing a physical therapist. Red flag #2 - they wanted me to use some stretching table that was not covered by insurance. I figured out that my sciatica pain was due to tight hamstrings (causes imbalances that tug on lower back muscles and ligaments) and as soon as I started stretching them...boom! No more sciatica! Everyone's situation is different and requires a different approach. Best of luck and health.

I have stenosis (L5-S1, creeping up to L4 now). Diagnosed in 2008ish when I was roughly 36. Thanks for explaining what it is! You did better at explaining it than some of the medical professionals I have had over the years. These are great stretches. I have back stretches to do every day (given by PT) but sometimes they are not enough, especially on days when the sciatica (or "not sciatica" as I call it because it's not a true sciatica) hurting more than usual, which is what got me to find this video. I do morning yoga every day when I wake up. My doctors (spine, chiro and GP) like that I'm so into yoga since it helps so much.

It's so amazing that this video popped up for me today! I'm a 65 year-old woman, and I've had sciatic nerve problems for years, but yesterday I reached an all-time low. I bent over just a little to reach for something on a low shelf. I kind of felt something "give", and then found I couldn't straighten up. The pain in my lower back was horrendous. I literally had to take tiny baby steps to the recliner. Each step was excruciating, no exaggeration. Back in the day we would have said my back "went out." I was pretty much stuck there all day. By bedtime I was able to slowly make my way up to bed. It's not quite as severe today, but is still in bad shape. I'm going to try these exercises. Thank you for making them available!

Can you please make a video for those who are maintaining their siatica due to disc disgreneration and stenosis for last 20 years . Sometimes due to some activities like running or playing , I do flare my tingling in legs , pain in hips / buttocks or keens. At that point I slow down a bit , do some mindful stretching n exercises shown by you snd again m good to go. I feel that my core is stronger than before and I want to keep myself active n fit always. I love being active . Hi, I'm a 56 year old white female that has been suffering for years on and off with lower back pain. 2 years ago our home burned down and as you can imagine it has been a very stressful emotional time for me. On top of that I don't sleep good anymore and only get about 2 hrs a night. My sciatica pain began when we moved into our shop/man cave/apartment thats located on the next lot from our home that burned down. We lived there while we built our new home. The floors were concrete and we carpeted them best we could but over time my back and feet took the brunt of the concrete even though I wore shoes all the time. With so much other stuff to worry about it got pushed aside. Fast forward to our new home that I let my husband handle and we ended up short on money at the end and ended up with stained concrete floors. Beautiful but their killing me. We've put down thick rugs or mats as much as possible but not much has helped. Got thick soled shoes even no help. Last October my right ankle began to hurt me bad, turned out to be Achilles tendinitis. Wore a boot for 2 months. Its b we there but still bothers me. Then early in March I began to have extreme sciatica pain on that same right side and I noticed when my back was hurting so was my ankle and that right knee. Then I began having shooting pain down that leg all the way to my foot. I went to a new chiropractor but unfortunately she only made it alot worse. Last month I found another chiro that said for sure its a bulging disc. He tried with adjustments but I would leave in more pain. Tomorrow I'm headed to a Orthopedist to have him exray, mri something it and see just whats going on. Its gotten to the point that as long as I stay off of it I'm fine. But upon standing for any length of time, usually on takes 5 mins, and the pinching starts so bad I have to sit down. So its affecting most anything I do. I've tried cold packs/heating pads, muscle rubs, tens unit, massages and adjustments and exercises for it like yours found on here... but nothing has helpes. My question is am I doing the right thing by going to a orthopedic surgeon and if so, what are the main points I need to tell him so he will know exactly where and whats causing it and how to fix it. In this case is surgery even on the table? Its affecting my quality of life and limiting me as to what I can physically do now. Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks so much! I've been working from home since March due to COVID, and I'm an accountant so working from home is basically sitting allllll day long at my computer. I started getting sciatic nerve pain thanks to all the sitting and probably bad posture, and this is helping a ton! The content is much appreciated

I've been struck with sciatica. You have done a great job with various videos of educating me about different rehab depending on the disc issue. I finally understand why the hyper extensions from McKenzie don't help me. I'm in Australia and just wanted to say thanks.

During the first set of exercises my lumbar at rest could reproduce audible back cracking sounds with tiny supine arches..sadly..yet much relief as I progressed completing ea stretch as advised. Clearly immediate improvement. Obviously this needs to be at least a QOD performance. A result after 40 years of extreme sports. Such a handsome couple. I love PTs having worked with them during my career as an RN. Thanks so much.

I had both knees replaced...it was major. I followed every serious painful excersize recommended at home & went to PT as well...The movement on stomach, on knees with arm stretched above head and head down WAS THE MOST EFFECTIVE REGARDING BENDING MY KNEES WITH THE LEAST PAIN!!! AND THE MOST RESULTS!!! That movement is not recommended by Surgeon or PT!!! If I would have only known...Can't wait to update you on my radical flexibility I know is coming...

Thank you so much! I created this pain, because I was no longer able to get PT, because of lock down.. I developed hip flexor spasms which were themselves secondary to another injury. I got so frustrated that I did a really aggressive Pigeon Pose, and wham! Now that I am seeing my PT again, and have so many other problems, I think this got misdiagnosed. Obviously, stenosis is not something you create doing one aggressive stretch. But the pain is from irritating the nerve, not from the stenosis itself, right? Especially now, people really need this kind of information. Thank you so much for giving the public access to this kind of differential diagnosis. As soon as you covered that, I knew exactly what caused this pain. I have spent years trying to correct a posterior pelvic tilt, using the work of Katy Bowman, so I have been really frustrated by the fact that tilting anteriorly makes this particular pain worse. But now I get it. I am so grateful!

Hello. I would like to thank you for all the hard work you put into these very informative and helpful videos. I have got : . Diffuse disc bulge noted at L3/4 level indenting the thecal sac causing bilateral neural foraminal stenosis and abuts the bilateral traversing nerve roots. Diffuse disc bulge noted at L4/5 level indenting the thecal sac. Mild disc height reduction noted at L5/S1 level. Asymmetrical disc bulge noted at L5/S1 level with annular tear and posterocentral and para central foraminal disc component indenting the thecal sac causing right neural foraminal stenosis and impinges the right traversing nerve roots. What set of exercises would you recommend? At present I don't have any radiating pain. I just experience some stiffness in the morning and some lumbar region soreness from sitting for prolonged period. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you again.

Hello. Thank you very much for helping us to feel better. I just watched your video about the exercises for degenerative spinal changes and I wonder if there is anything else we can do to improve our condition. I have been suffering from a chronic back pain for the past 20 years. It started from a slightly bulging disk L4-L5 and as of today I have a multiple herniations at the lower back with a degenerative changes at one level. I have been experiencing bilateral radiation starting most of the time from my knees towards my feet. The pain alternates. I have been doing your exercises for a week and I feel better afterwards. When I get up in the morning, the pain comes back. I don’t want to go for any major surgery and I have been trying to find anything that will help me to get through the day. I did the physical therapy for a while but it didn’t seem to work. I was doing the exercises that actually messed up side of my hip and had to stop. I am looking for an advice from you as a professional . Thank you very much for all your help.

The advice and exercises that I show in all my videos is exactly what I learned in PT school, so hopefully they help you as you treat patients. I don't know if I would use them to study, but hopefully they are similar to what you learned and studied in school. I know what you mean about reading/studying books getting boring . . . videos are definitely more fun! Thanks for watching - have a great day!

I am totally onto what I just learned hear and will be watching this vid a number of times. Went to my chiropractor and correctly diagnosed my spinal canal stenosis and gave me some exercises to do but I now have a so much better understanding after all these years of what is really at play to help myself. This makes so much sense. I have sciatica only on my right calf and wear a compression hose which does the trick but I'm thinking the exercises above will really help. I also take a powdered callogen peptide supplement. Just a couple months in on the callogen but it can't hurt.

I watched with great interest your at home exercises for sciatica pain caused by a bulging disc as well as your video on sciatica caused by stenosis. My MRI showed that I had both stenosis and a bulging disc. Would performing one set of exercises for stenosis and another set of exercises for buldging disc together cause conflicting results, please advise. Thank you for providing such a great service for all of us suffering from sciatica pain. Your prompt response is much appreciated.
