@@LarryMoonlink3892 She’s trying to get this tiny thing to feed more people than it can. If THAT cake was meant to feed a lot of people, that’s on the customer and probably her. You get more servings because the pieces are tiny and she’s insulting people who have genuine complaints because she’s certain her way it better when the best option is to order a cake big enough for your event, not a tiny cake where the pieces are all tiny so everyone who wants cake has to get seconds, which can be embarrassing to some. Ever met people who are body-conscious? People who don’t want to eat to much in front of others? Getting seconds may be a hard thing for some of them. Also, the cake doesn’t grow when this happens. You say to just pick the slice you'd prefer, but that plan doesn't always pan out. Especially when you have a LOT of people at the party. My family is HUGE. I'm lucky to get a slice at all if I move too slow, let alone PICK. That's a luxury for the kids, who get first dibs. (Because they have a fricken sixth sense and know the cake is being served before anyone else does! I usually only realize cake has been served because a kid walks by with a slice of it. 😭)

Not exactly...if you make the angle too small, the cake will just disintegrate. There is some minimum angle in practice when you cut triangles, and my guess is that you would get less servings than here

@@SKyrim190 In my experience, this is only true when your cake is dry af or unreasonably tall. There is also no reason to cut it that thin, since you're feeding people, not preparing microscope slides. Triangles are the superior shape.

It's an interesting way to make servings smaller, but I think I'll stick to buying an appropriate sized cake for the number of guests. You can often get a baker to make a big square cake with the same flavour if you're serving a lot of people. Those are easy to portion without having to sacrifice frosting to cake ratios very much.
@AlyssHarte
Жыл бұрын
A tall (7in or higher) 14in round cake should feed around 120-130 people. Unless you cutting those triangles SUUUUUPER thin, you’re only gonna have enough slices to feed maybe 40 people assuming each slice is around 1in thick at the thickest point. You’ve then got a LOT of waste (each slice is approx 27in3 of cake, so a 3in by 3in by 3in) because most people aren’t gonna eat a slice of cake that big and you’ll get a lot of crumbling towards the centre point because the slices are too thin there. This is an appropriate sized cake for the number of guests and how all bakers will cut the cake for the recommended serving number unless specified by the client😊

If the cake has frosting on the top too, it wouldn't be so bad. I prefer less icing, so with a regular fully frosted cake, I'd prefer that middle piece. But with the cake in the video only having icing on the sides, I don't think many would want that kind of middle piece.

@MajiggerRose

P.S.: Also, if you know kids, very very few of them would want a middle piece and the fact that some get much bigger pieces with lots of frosting would obviously be disappointing. I have trouble believing that a parent and someone who was around so many little kids wouldn’t see the issue with that. I’m sure you’re a good parent and a good person, but I just feel what you were doing seems like it was you being intentionally unkind. edit: Looks like my other comment got deleted but I was just saying that yeah, kids can be bratty and they need to be corrected if they’re throwing tantrums, but I just think it seems unkind to do something multiple times that you know will upset them, especially since they’re brains aren’t fully developed and a tasty piece of cake will be a bigger deal to them.
@wolfzmusic9706

@@MajiggerRoseye I agree completely. Idk why they're making it out like the children should just deal with it. If an adult would be annoyed (which I'm sure many would be), then obviously a child that's completely different from an adult will be too.
@MajiggerRose

@@wolfzmusic9706 I wish my other comment hadn’t been deleted but I just think it’s disturbing that they said “little kids”, who are likely to see cake as an even bigger deal. I initially compared it to someone who likes to pay with checks at the grocery store for the sole reason that’s it’s the way they’ve “always done it”, despite noticing how frustrated it makes everyone else in line behind them and how much trouble the cashier has to go through. Then they pretend to wonder why anyone would be annoyed with them. And cutting a cake at a party in a way where everyone gets a similar piece is much less trouble than changing how you pay for something but it is arguably more meaningful to a very young child. Adults aren’t likely to have a meltdown and cry about being stuck in line or having to call over a manager to help with the person who wants to pay with a check, but it’s generally seen as inconsiderate when you have the means to pay a different way and KNOW you’re upsetting people. Therefore, I think what this person did is even more inconsiderate in a lot of ways. I know it ultimately doesn’t matter but I just don’t understand wanting to be mean to children. I’m sure they upset more than just the ones who cried or had tantrums.
