I don’t usually enjoy tutorials this much. First reason, this lady is clearly a looker! Second, I was quick to judge during the video about the grounding issue then she pointed out that there was a fix to that issue. It was an experience to know that I’m an ass, and that the fix to the issue was in her plan to point out the issue. THANK YOU for the good quality videos.

I also noticed before she pointed out an issue that it looked like the terminal was almost touching the plate and might short out.

Electronic ignition is the best way to go on the old gassers. Worn bushings won’t affect e. i. near as much as points. 4010’s have a 6 volt coil and a 12 volt electrical system. There is a resistor on the back of the key switch that drops out when cranking so 12 volts is at the coil for an extra hot spark. When the key is in run the resistor drops the voltage to around 6 volts at the coil so it won’t burn up when running. I bypassed that resistor and changed to a 12 volt coil on mine when I converted it to electronic ignition. Great video as always.

Lol......Rachel, you almost had me screaming at you DON’T run the coil wire under the points screw facing down as I was typing this.....then watched a little further thinking...nah Rachel wouldn’t do that to us. Luckily you didn’t let me down 🙂....and yes like you said, that grounded wire causes people lots of headaches to the non- mechanical people that aren’t afraid to have a go. Love this channel.

Another quality video and in my situation, very timely. I've got a 3010 that I'm splitting to replace the clutch. After that I need to address a broke piston ring and several hydraulic leaks. These old tractors need TLC and Dan and Rachel help deliver that care. 5 Stars. Keep 'em coming!

I converted a few to solid state ignition. A small module and trigger wheel replace points and condenser. No more issues hot intense spark instant starting now. Excellent work Thanks!

Great video, noticed a butt splice connector on your ohm meter leads. When checking for resistance in things such as your coil the resistance in the butt connector can cause a bit of resistance in the meter lead and could potentially give a false reading if your checking certain items. If you have a break in your wire or bare spot make sure you check your leads by touching them together and verifying they show 000 before beating your head against the fender chasing a false read. Just a heads up for you and anybody willing to learn from my mistakes. Keep up the great work.

Awesome teacher! I liked how you cross referenced the different tractors because I have a WD and have never done this before. The reason I buy a lot of my vehicle parts from A1 auto is because they have so may how to videos. I’ll definitely be ordering tractor parts from your store because of these videos. Thank you and more videos please.

Hey Rachel, thanks for the tutorial! When will you get into newer tractors? I am not talking about the newest JD or anything, but like something from the 80's or 90's? Also I would really like to see a long form video, or part 1,2,3... of a gear case overhaul or front end work.

The RC modeling community uses products like CorrosionX to waterproof and corrosion proof electronics when needed, IE saltwater boats, etc. These products seem to be persistent and don't conduct electricity. Have you ever tried this inside the distributor?

Trying to get a 2010 gas to start but no success. Have done everything, even removed the manifold to check for obstruction. The engine turns fine, good spark, no start. Have tried start fluid but no hint of start. The cylinders are not getting fuel. Looked in the intakes and exhaust ports on the head while cranking and saw the valves are not moving. Assuming my worst fear is verified: broken chain. Would this be easily replaced and do I assume the valves are damaged?

Think of them like a switch that turns the high voltage electricity on and off (coming from the coil and going to the spark plug).

You should wear gloves. For health reasons. Most mechanics wear them. Also it just seems strange to see a lady getting her hands dirty.
@carbonEYE007

Bro… real mechanics often do not wear gloves. Gloves have only been in the technical field for about 15 years. Try starting a small points retention screw such as she is doing with gloves, you would drop the screw many times and fumble to start it.
