Remember on low strings it's counter clockwise for tightening...the 2 higher strings are clockwise, but you already know that. It's nice now days many songs recorded are tuned to 440 for playing by ear with music. I also use a little super s snark tuner that pin points with green. It's a pain in but when orchestra has some violins a bit out of key. I played electric violin forever. I also play a full chamber cello. Luv to watch your tutorials. Great job! I'm always learning.

Hey Kiddo , How about a video regarding string replacement ? I just got a cello about an hour ago. It's going to need some work so I figured I'd change the strings. I replaced them one at a time by first backing off the fine timers fully. Once the peg tuning is very close I'll move back to the fine tuners. I've never been afraid of the peg tuners on any instrument even beginners should consider the peg process as part of their tuning ritual. Everyone will have to change a string eventually . Great video and "Don't be a-feared ". Cheers !
@davidhuckaby832

Yes. For both fiddle and cello, I always loosen fine tuners for large note changes for tuning. The in ball park, I use fine tuning. I always tighten up to tuning not downward and loose peg. It could slip. And be sure to press in as tightened. It seems the cello is forgiving as low tuning does not break strings. Harmonics help too but for some, it's down the road. Thanx for tips.

Oh hey, my cello has a similar problem. I believe if you look at the neck of your cello from the side you can see if your strings are touching the fingerboard. If they are then you may need to replace your bridge to keep the strings from touching it. I hope this helps! ^^
@sarahjoyrecordings
8 жыл бұрын
+elysarachel If your strings are buzzing, they are very very flat (out of tune), and you will need to twist them several octaves up (turn them clockwise several times). Push in while you twist to keep them in place. It could also be that your strings have fallen out of the pegs. Since you are a beginner, I would find someone who can fix this for you. I would take it to an instrument shop!

I think tuning the pegs slightly below their pitch helps with the problem I have with the fine tuners.. It's almost impossible for me to use the fine tuners. One because they're very tight and I can barley turn them and two because I don't have the little "black things" around the circle part of the fine tuners, it just hurts my fingers when I try to turn them, I don't know if that's normal or what but thanks for the video it really helped

+stoneyroks if you're having trouble turning them, you might try using pliers. I always carry a tiny pair around with me in case if a tuning emergency! So glad it could help :D And yeah, if you can, just turn all the fine tuners as far counter-clockwise as possible (without them coming completely undone) then adjust with pegs.

fyi, the weird wonky wave sound is called a 'beat frequency'. it is a wave the frequency of which is the differential between the two frequencies you are playing with the strings. Interesting comment about the sound of aircraft. 3:58 no it would be a fourth because if you count semi tones an A compared to a D is a 4th because first,flat second, second, flat third, third and fourth. By the way not trying to get into a fight or anything. I just don’t want people getting the wrong idea that it is a fifth when it’s really a fourth.
@Alan-xe4st
3 жыл бұрын
I know this is petty cuz this is an old comment, but you need to count backwards from the A because the D is lower than the A, so it would be Ab, G, Gb, F, E, Eb, D which is seven semitones which is a perfect fifth.

Is it wrong that I get such joy from watching you tangle your hair up in the pegs as you're de-tuning?

Sarah.......it just isn't fair, why do I not live next door to you? I find you unbelievably talented and soooooooo sexy. I know there is much more in store for you (musically) just know there are many who are hopelessly in love with you.
