In this video I show a very simple technique I discovered that turns a Nagra reel-to-reel recorder into a very versatile tape sampler / looper / echo with variable speed. Modding regular tape machines for vari-speed is something that can be done by skilled technicians, but professional machines for instrumentation or film sound recording often have external speed control. This can on some be "misused" to control them via a control voltage sequencer. On the Nagra 4-L it is as simple as plugging a cable into the "speed" jack. As far as I know, this is rather unknown technique.
