Thanks very much for your explanation of the charging system it helps me more about it. I'm trying to figure out why my newly-rebuilt Bosch alternator is fine (14.1V) when I start the car but once it warms up it drops down to around 12V (like regular battery voltage). Very frustrating. Thanks.

If you have a late model vehicle and the charging is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), 12V is normal at times. As long as your getting around 14.1 at startup, you're fine. One way to make sure the PCM is controlling the alternator is to turn on your headlights, stereo, air conditioner or heater on high, and your hazard lights when you see alternator charging at 12V. After turning on all those electrical loads, the voltage should go up to 14 to 15 volts.

@@bernardocisneros4402 Thanks for your response. My car is 1989 BMW and does not have a PCM. If I kept rolling at 12V, things like headlights, windows, door locks no longer function properly. Monitoring the system voltage using a voltmeter plugged into the lighter shows no adjustments being made. In any event, the Bosch "factory-rebuilt" alternator was defective and the replacement under warranty worked properly with no further issues.

Excellent tutorial on this subject!! Is it possible to do a story on Conductive battery analyzers?

I'll try my best I have to do a research to see if there is an interest for it like sometimes I did videos on the printed circuit boards there wasn't too much of an interest in that thank you so much for your suggestion but conductive battery analyzers are definitely another aide and determining the ability of a battery especially with today's new technology thank you

@@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto Absolutely I actually have 2 testers, midtronics ones, pbt - 300 and mdx 300 p. fairly expensive but extremely accurate. Again thanks Joe.

@@404notfound..... I like them the x300 see I use two kind of testers one is actual low test where current is being drawn from the battery around 100 amps it's called the toaster the other one that we use is actually a conductance and resistance test of the battery and that's why the cables are very thin we want the battery resistance to be about less than 20 Milli ohms and that's what it does but very interesting concept thank you so much
