This should be the only suspension how-to on KZitem. Clear, concise and not over complicated from a guy that actually knows how to rip. Good work as always!

I'd say i really like the perspective of many, and many have things to contribute. But this one is the best so far. There are a couple of quick setups that show a simplified way to quickly setup your shock, and just following that is not complete, but it enables people who wouldn't do any setup, to at least get it close to performing. So i like that one video for that too. And if the other vids didn't exist, Kyle and April's video might not be as good as it is.

I agree 1000%! Lye & Aprils are usually THE best. And that’s high praise coming from me, Mr KZitem Critic. I call this phenomena of everyone redoing and rehashing and copy-catting everyone’s video #MetooMTB. I should start my own parity channel…🤔☝️😃 Great job as always K&A!👌

There's nothing worse than paying good money for equipment, providing decent adjustment options to taylor your needs, but then not making use of them ; i.e. running a bad setup and have your rig perform like crap! One might as well opt to run much cheaper pieces of suspension in the first place and save an awful lot of bucks if performance ends up being the same. Thx for your much appreciated efforts to educate novice riders!

I agree with all the positive comments. As a brand new mountain bike rider with < 1 month experience, the learning curve is intense. Your videos are 100% understandable and oh-so-helpful. Bike manufacturers should include a DVD with your videos with every new bike purchase. Some people don’t own DVD players anymore but many of us still do. Premium brands like Niner should hire Kyle and April to make a video for each bike model’s basic tune, then throw your skills workshop videos on the DVD for the other chapters. Customers will love it and the bikes will perform better and safer on average. It’s probably not going to happen, but we can dream. Thanks a million!

Hey Andrea, if measured in your descending position I find that 30% is a really good setup but if measured seated it’s a little too soft for most people. If we have dive at all then we will just add some low speed compression

Finding a “teacher” that you get how they teach is critical to really learning something efficiently. For me, how Kyle teaches is ideal. I think that’s a innate ability, part of someone’s personality…who they are and not necessarily taught. I think more people need to be exposed to these types of teachers and instructors. It’s really cool to be able to find this type of content on KZitem. I hope the Myocarditis fades away and does it quickly. Love these videos. Can’t wait to see what’s next. I spied Kyle & April on video at Berm Peak opening day. I got my fingers crossed for a video drop soon. 🤞🏼🙏🤘🏻

Amazing job explaining/demo'ing suspension concepts and variables!!! Please never apologize for making a longer vid...this is some serious gold you guys put much effort into sharing with everyone. You guys are willing to risk body & bike to demo the consequences of incorrect technique...Kyle, that was a serious take-one-for-the-team intentional front wheel washout in your braking skills vid...your explanation has likely saved many of us from losing our front ends while cornering. Now April's intentionally using incorrect bike set-up and enduring super-sketchy rock garden sessions for our benefit...huge respect for doing this to help us understand proper vs. incorrect set-up! You guys bring a ton of genuine positivity & knowledge to the MTB community...thanks for all! Stay safe, happy riding, & cheers from Chico :)

They have great energy, as does does Blake, but i also love to watch Joy of Bike. Those guys are great and have a different approach. Get someone serious, add Kyle and April and add Joy of Bike, maybe gmbn and it's a pretty complete mix. There are a couple of other people who do thorough jobs too. I still have trouble with drops, i get it, then a week goes by, i get confused, lack confidence, watch some videos, go out and screw up again lol. It looks like everyone is hitting the drop the same, if you mute their sound, but the way they describe what they are doing is different, and that makes it confusing. I wish i had the drops that some of these guys have to practice on, they took the nearest ones down. I got some coaching but wiped out off a boulder in squamish and that set me back months.

Great videos! Each and every one of them. I was getting tired of all the ride-along videos and really wanted something more technical that explains the how, the why, and the why not. You deliver on everything. If you are looking to grow your channel with more content, I would really love a playlist called “Maintaining your bike” where you show all the basic maintenance, tuneups, as well as some more complex things like shock rebuilds, etc. If you don’t do these yourself, maybe the bike shop guys will let you record a video in the shop with them. Topics such as how often and when to perform maintenance would be great. I’d love to see the special tools as well as what products (oils, greases, etc) are great to use. Cheers!

Always loved the way you make things simpler to understand. Thanks again guys. I’ve shared the video with my friends as well hopefully it will help them lots. The biggest problem with suspension is suspension lol. And most guys just ride and purely set their sag and leave it there even with a high end shock that has 4 points of adjustments. Adjustments are key to ensure you enjoy your ride more. Now need to go find a coil shock that fits my bike. My air shock is driving me nuts.

Excellent! I believe you mentioned the goals for the suspension is for acceleration and braking, you also should add it is crucial in flat and off camber turns to keep tire in contact with the ground. Nice job comparing coil and air shocks, it is a bit tough to do...but roughly speaking static sag is handled by the initial air pressure vs the threaded collar on a coil shock. Spring rate is done with volume spaces in an air shock versus spring swaps on a coil shock.

Please advise on setting up Rock Shox forks with twin air chambers top and bottom - Dual Air Spring. 2. Please advise on changing settings and when it is worthwhile doing for usual riders. Plus would you also change tyre pressure? Settings for different terrain. 3. What would you feel in the suspension when it is due a service? Signs for when it needs servicing, or readjusting? In particular, things like show us HOW a bad settings work (every other video talk about how a good setting work) and WHY it's good to have one setting beside other... and again, you don't only focus on top fork or shocks that have low/high speed comp click , but you talk for other folks like me, that have a fork with only rebound and grip damper open/close (like fox rhythm) . Super video.... looking for part two, with things like volume spacers and other. Keep it up :)

Only problem I've been having lately is learning how to jump with the right set up. My local trails just built some pretty big jumps and I'm not sure what if any settings I should change. Maybe part 2 can have a chapter on setting up for medium to big jumps and drops.

Hey! Yeah that would be awesome to add in there! If anything I would just add a couple clicks of high speed compression and rebound if you have the option or if not than maybe 1 volume spacer in the fork and shock to help the bike resist bottoming!

This was REALLY helpful. I have been riding for many years but recently got my first FS and am pretty confounded by all the lingo. Bike shop has been great with setting up but now I understand better what is going on. And again, your relationship with April is just fun to watch, you both seem to really enjoy being together and that adds enjoyment to you videos. Wishing you both the best.

Thank you for the great explanatory video of how suspension works! I only had a very superficial understanding of how it all worked before, but your video made it easy to understand. Looking forward to the follow-up on suspension set up! It will come in handy when I get my new full-suspension bike (currently on order).

Great video and really accurate explanations. Perfect to understand what you are doing when setting up suspension and what happens mechanically if you do certain things. Really enjoying your videos. Keep it up! Hats off to you. Greetings from a german mechanical engineer ;)

Super good explanations of how suspension works! It is hard to diagnose issues because there are so many factors at work but your examples and demo really help. :)

Great vid as always. I was waiting to see how you referred to rebound, more rebound being what most people would understand as faster return or more rebound as in more damping. Avoided the confusion completely by just explaining what it does. Nicely done. Been chasing my setup for two years, 130 Monarch and 140 Revelation ( 2021 piston, MC damper ) Had it pretty good at a bikepark blue trail and it's awesome on forest fast smooth single track, but point it at bumps, rocks and go slower then it's harsh, clattery, every impact slows you and makes things even worse. Maybe I should speed up the rebound a little based on this.
