Over the coming weeks many of you will be the proud new plant parents to lots of potted @the_gardenerben
welcome to my unpackaging and handling guide for those of you New to receiving potted plants,
It’s really important that at this delicate stage you don’t get overly excited and damage your plant. once unpackaged I would suggest giving it a really good soak in a bucket of water and allow it to drink for around an hour,
Take a look at the bottom of the pot if you see fresh new root growth emerging through the drainage holes, you’re clear for planting, you want to make sure that the plant has completely occupied its signature green pot and it is imperative that when turned out of the pot that the root root ball stays intact or you’ll put your plant into shock
planting always best out of the heat of the day around 4-6pm is ideal this way if your plant goes into shock, it has at least 12 hours to take a breath before things start warming up again
carefully place your hand over the top of the pot with the stems through your fingers in one swift motion turn the pot upside down so the greenery hangs towards the floor and the roots skyward
use the palm of your other hand to gently knock the rim of the pot upwards releasing the plant from its pot , remove the pot and carefully turn the plant back up the correct way and place it into your pre-prepared planting pocket,
Unless the the rose is pot bound there is no need to tease the roots at this stage, backfill and mulch as usual and water with at least one watering can of water
should you be unfortunate and the root ball of the plant breaks up it is really important that you offer the plant some shade move its container to a shady spot or cover it with an old net curtain. The next few days will be really important
Water is taken up by the plants root system through thousands of tiny hair like roots which aren’t ,visible to the naked eye if these are damaged your plant may go into shock and may wilt
