Unstepping the mast of a 51-foot sailboat is no mean feat, and requires detailed and meticulous preparation. Having a through mast adds an extra layer of difficulty.
We took Venus, a 1980 Baltic 51, to French Polynesia for our ArcticStern project!
We then sailed 15,000 nautical miles against the current from Tahiti to Quebec before making a technical stopover in Rivière-au-Renard, Quebec and lifting Venus out of the water.
Today, we're embarking on a refit to restore her to her former glory, make a few repairs and get her ready to set sail again on our next expeditions!
After several months of work on the boat, here at last is the video showing the rather intense months during which we gradually tamed the yard.
