I just finished resurfacing my old fiberglass tub and surround. FIRST MISTAKE I MADE....THIS IS HUGE ..... DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT USE FOAM OR ANY OTHER FOAM LIKE ROLLER! The epoxy literally ATE THRU the expensive Lowes 4 in roller I started with, and it ATE the regular white foam roller. I started seeing pieces of the material in my epoxy. I was SOOOO upset. I had to waste my first paint kit by using a regular paint roller for my first coat. SO UPSETTING! I had purchased two KITS from Amazon. I also purchased a spray can of the product. So...24 hours later I went to walmart....bought another spray can. I dont recommend the spray can IF YOU WANT A SHINEY FINISH bc the spray can Rustoleum Tub and Tile leaves more of a matte finish. I sprayed two cans of spray paint for coat 2 and 3. I had bought a new smooth finish roller that had regular roller material at Walmart. After the spray paint was dry....I sucked it up.... and opened kit #2 and I realized I had wasted time and money on the spray can application. WASTE!!! The moment I started rolling on kit #2 with the 4 inch NORMAL PAINT ROLLER MATERIAL.....the project came to life!!! I didnt even need to use the entire kit. I forgot to mention that after the 1st EPIC FAIL, I had to go thru with a sanding block and remove the bumps and lumps left by the expensive Lowes 4inch rollers that were foam and foam like. Then I used a tack cloth to remove the sanding dust before applying coat 2 and 3. So....if you feel or see lumps and bumps after your first application.....dont freak out like I did ... it's a simple fix! I will say that the spray can helped get a closer application to the edges, but honestly DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY ON THE SPRAY!!! If you are just resurfacing your tub ONLY .... I'm guessing one kit will be enough. But, if you are tackling a tub and surround.... buy the double kit on Amazon for like $52. I'd probably buy two anyway....just incase you are like me and run into any problems .... you'll have a Plan B!!! I love the new look of my old yellowish tub!! I'd love to post pics but I dont know how to on here!!! Rustoleum lists the products you will need for this diy on top of the box its packaged in. DONT USE FOAM!!!!

You're comparing a kit (which reviews on several home improvement stores sites have extremely bad reviews) to appliance epoxy paint. Those kits are expensive as the appliance epoxy paint is cheaper and easier to use. If you want to keep it longer put a protective coating over it. These You Tube people do all sorts of things to temporarily fix things, but never consider how to make them last longer. Appliance paint should last years if you treat your house like you care about it.

I did this to my sink/counter combo in my half bath. While it looks good, this stuff was a PAIN IN THE ASS for me to use. Lucky for me I was able to take my countertop off and take it outside to spray. It turned out okay, but it was a 2 week process for me because it kept crinkling. Any time I had to do a new coat I had to wait 24 hours because the spray did not adhere right. Sanded in between and cleaned it off. In the end, I am not sure I would go this route again.

A tip that works very well when working with anything with strong fumes: Open a window in the room you're working in (hopefully you have one). Set a fan at the open door and turn on. Crack open a window somewhere else in the house. The negative pressure will keep the fumes from filling the house so you don't die. My SO told me this and it worked well with this epoxy paint. P.S. I tried the foam roller too and it didn't work for me either.
@jinxu00769

I dont recommend pointing a fan directly towards the application area. It can blow lint, dust and stuff that may not be able to sand out. I opened my front door and pointed a big industrial fan OUT the screen door!! This stuff smells extremely potent. You are going to inhale the fumes regardless of the best of efforts! Watch KZitem for hints, tips and advice. It helped me a lot.

I have used the spray can trigger handle for other paint jobs and it does work better than just your finger on the nozzle. Also, I have been researching epoxy products for countertops and they all say to use a butane torch or heat gun to remove those bumps, crackles, bubbles other people have been seeing. After applying the epoxy you torch it and the heat smoots out the imperfections from the chemical reactions happening underneath. Just thought this info might help someone in the future...and of course check the label on the appliance epoxy before doing this.
@jinxu00769
4 жыл бұрын
What shes talking about is not bubbles or anything left from the application. THE FOAM ROLLERS ACTUALLY COME APART AND LEAVE PIECES OF THE FOAM, OR MATERIAL, ON THE SURFACE. This DOES NOT need a heat gun at all. I just finished my tub and surround and the epoxy dissolved one 4 inch foam roller and another 4 inch microfiber type roller. The rollers just fall apart!!! Heat wont help with this product.

A mask like the one used here would protect against aerosol particles, but would not protect against fumes at all. Epoxy fumes are damaging to the nervous system. To protect against fumes, you would need a respirator that uses organic vapor cartridges. These organic vapor cartridges have a layer of activated charcoal to absorb the vapors generated by the epoxy.

It really depends, but I did not like the bumpy texture the foam roller left. If you put the epoxy on very tick with the brush, the brush strokes seam to settle out evenly and aren't as noticeable. The spray gives you the smoothest finish, but the overspray is beyond bad.

I watched a video on Stone Coat Epoxy and they used a final "overcoat." Not needed with this product?

Sorry watched yr video after I used this spray on my refrigerator.. it worked well but as you said, it got sprayed over and my garage floor is now very sticky. Can you suggest, is there a way I can remove this spray from the floor?

Can you use this on any countertops? Is it expensive and does it come in a textured color? Or just solid colors?

Just wondering. Is it also possible to sand down the cabinets, add primer then spray paint them too? I dont know much about this so I don't know if it's more expensive to spray, than just painting cabinet.

I wish I saw your video before, I sprayed a cabinet in the living room with that spray and the overspray ruined my sofa
