Thanks, I didn’t even think to see if they make 12v Led lighting with residential plugs. Opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Also, you can get pull chain switches on Amazon/Lowe’s/HD and install the same way as your switch and customized with a chain armament. Might not work for certain locations but it adds a bit of flair.

I'm glad I saw your video. I was about to buy all new oval/pancake LED 12-volt lights to replace my old 12-volt old school bulb lights that came with my 21-year-old TT. So, ugly for ugly except it would be LED. I had no idea you could put in a 110-volt fixture with a low-wattage LED bulb. To be fair, the replacements were actually really cheap but now I can choose which fixtures I want to be esthetically pleasing. I'm on 24/7 shore power so would it really matter what voltage light bulb I choose? I don't even have the option of running on 12V if the power goes out because my battery blew up about 6 years ago.

Every RV is different, but unless yours was configured differently, the lights are most likely 12v only and the battery (even if it is dead) only acts as a pass through for the 110v system.

Yes they are out there. 12v specific lighting typically has them, but 12v lighting is also typically not the best-looking lighting, IMO. Also 12v lighting is usually unnecessarily expensive.

Sorry so late with this question … but I want to put in a new fixture over the dining table where there is currently (pun not intended:-) a 110V outlet. Is that still just matching up wires? Also there won’t be a toggle or switch so you are saying I can buy one? What does it attach to inside the light? Thanks so much
@ProjectTrek
2 жыл бұрын
If there is a 110v outlet near where you are affixing the lighting fixture, then yes (in most cases) there will be a hot, neutral, and ground. You must match that up with the new fixture. This will be no different than residential wiring. For a switch, be sure to use a switch designed for 110v w/ a ground connection.

We have 2 puck lights over the dining table that I'd like to switch out to small pendant lights. Our puck lights have push on/off buttons in the middle, so not sure if that can be used for the new lighting. Did your old puck lights have that button? Is that what the switch was?
@ProjectTrek
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely. The on/off switch should be removable from the original fixture. If it is, just wire it in like I showed in the video. If you have any other questions or it’s just not making sense, let me know.

@@ProjectTrek - We did it!!! I wish I could attach pics here to show you, but what a difference!! We had two puck lights on one frame, so besides drilling the hole in the bases of the residential lights and bridging the wires for the switches we bought, my husband had to connect the wires of those 2 lights together to make the connection. He tried them separately, but the other 3 lights on the circuit wouldn't work. Took a couple of tries and a few extensions and wire nuts, but he did it!! Thank you for your video!! He watched it over again during the process!! 👍

Changing out my lighting in the RV with residential ones but my RV wiring only has a black wire and the copper wire. What should I do?
@ProjectTrek
3 жыл бұрын
I guess I’m waiting to hear someone else chime in. The bare copper wire is usually a ground, but you shouldn’t have a ground on a 12v system. Is it an older RV? All of the rigs we’ve had have had a black and white wire for the lighting. If you have a voltmeter you can power it on and tear the leads.
@maxescamilla4597
3 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectTrek it's a 1998 Fleetwood Storm. Yea it surprised me too when I went to replace it. Ok I'll try my voltmeter on it. Thanks.
@ProjectTrek

I think I’m making this more complicated than it needs to be. Unless the wiring to your lights are wired for 110, this should be stupid simple. Make sure that there’s not more wiring shoved up in the ceiling. As long as those are the only 2 wires there those are the + - for your 12v lighting.
@maxescamilla4597
3 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectTrek ok so you're saying I tie both white and black leads from the fixture to the lone black wire from the RV? I checked for wires ticked inside but there's nothing there. Thank you for your help.
@ProjectTrek
3 жыл бұрын
I’d say black to black and white to bare wire - AS LONG AS - you’re getting a 12v reading on the multimeter from those wires. I can’t imagine it’s wired for anything other than 12v. Especially if there was a light fixture there before that was working. Check the bulb from the old fixture if you still have it. It should read 12v somewhere on there.
