I have six dining room chairs I'm going to try and reupholster with a similar back to this one- I've been worried about how I'm going to manage doing the backs, and this has been hugely helpful. Thank you for the detailed explanation with all the hows and whys of what you're doing. :)

The grain sack stripe fabric is more commonly referred to as 'french ticking', if you happen to be looking for some and were unsuccessful 💗. Great video thank you!

Thanks for this great tutorial. Can someone help explain how to accommodate the curved back? I have a seat that needs redoing but I don’t know how to preserve the curve.
@missmustardseed
2 жыл бұрын
Most of the chairs I recover do have a slight curve to the back and the shape of the wood frame helps the fabric, webbing, and batting to follow that curve. Some chairs also use a cardboard insert that is curved and will hold the shape. Your chair might even have one inside already.

@@missmustardseed It doesn't. It's just a big gap because when it came to me, it was about to be thrown in the skip. I only have a basic frame but can't figure out how to cut fabric to curve and fit well. Should I insert a board?

How much fabric is needed for each oval chair which includes the front and back ?
@missmustardseed
2 жыл бұрын
Oh, not very much! For just the oval back (front and back), then it will likely need about 1 - 1.5 yards of decorator-width fabric.

Hmmm...I haven't built the wood part of a chair like that before. I would suggest checking out woodworking/furniture building tutorials. Search for "balloon back french chair."
