I did read my owners manual, this is exactly how it explains to use the 4X4 options on the 3rd generation Tacomas. You can engage 4X4 High while in motion if you’re under 35mph but I would recommend engaging it while in park to be safe. You can drive up to 50mph while in 4X4 High but I wouldn’t go past 45mph again just to be safe. To engage 4X4 Low you must be stationary while in neutral then you can engage 4X4 Low and you shouldn’t drive over 5mph while in 4X4 Low.

He doesn’t even need to get the manual out. Just look up at the sun visor. The instructions are printed right there. 🤣

So, what's the difference between hi & low? What's the use of having it on hi & or low?

Hi means Hi-speed 4x4 which is used for lighter weight applications like snow and gravel and you can go up to 50mph using 4Hi Low means Low-speed 4x4 which is used for heavier weight applications such as deep snow and deep mud, you can’t go over 10mph using 4Low

There's also other ways of referring to these aswell but I recommend being stopped when switching to 4 high but it's also called 4 high on the fly ( I believe)
