Basic and to the point! Doesn’t get any better than that. Thanks man! HVAC issues right now and company can’t make it until the middle of next week so I’m putting myself through KZitem university right now trying to figure it out lol.
Haha don’t call me dad! I’m just some guy in a garage. But that sounds just as weird. Let me re-phrase. I am a human within a structure trying my best to relay basic information to other humans for the betterment of society.

I have a question: I watch alot of repair videos since I've been doing this kind of work for years, and whenever there's a video about "no power, checking the 12V rail, measuring if this cap is short to ground, what's the resistance of this, etc." I never know where they get the info of what makes a component have good or bad resistance, what a short to ground means, how and where to inject voltage, etc. I'm a bit lost. I never needed a multimeter for my kind of work (I only recently got into board level repairs), but I would like to have a better understanding. Any info on where to start would be appreciated if you have the time!

I think those are all great questions. And I will make a video about all your questions. I think a great place to start, is with a very basic diagram, and trying to interpret it. You’ll need to understand diagrams to understand circuits. I started with a 1970’s headlight diagram. Once you understand basic circuits you will start to understand these terms and why they’re important. Hope that helps.

How to you test to determine low voltage like 12v or 24v. I have a kitchen wire that is hanging and I think it’s supposed to have been for under cabinet lighting but I don’t know what voltage it is.
@aiyogarage

You would just test its voltage. But you’ll need to know if its an AC or DC circuit

What about amps? Can you measure amps with this type of multimeter? I bought a basic one and can't figure out how to use it. Need to check for battery draw/parasitic test.

Yes you can use this type of meter to measure amps. It is not demonstrated in this video.

Ok so, receptacle, when I punch Black to Ground, then Red to Hot, I'm getting 14V...my receptacle tester says "open ground"...and that outlet gets hot. Yes im on AC. What's going on?

Sounds like it could be poor grounding or a loose connection. That’s my best guess

How to check 24v dc power supply outlet?
@aiyogarage
Жыл бұрын
You'll want to make sure to have your meter in Volts DC mode. That's the mode with the "V" and it'll have a straight and dotted line about it. Red lead is for positive and black lead is for negative. Hope that helps.

First touch thing you want to measure with negative lead, then with positive one. Touching with red one, will push current to the black lead and you mind find it out the hard way.

@@mark5150ty I understand where you are coming from. I’ve worked with a lot of professional electricians/mechanics/technicians/tradesmen, that do not understand the fundamentals of using a multimeter. It’s an issue of training and education. And a lot of those people are visual learners, sometimes they have a hard time interpreting the manual.
