At my shop, we tried to bring on a female technician for close to 15 years. We actually hired a young lady and had a start date for her but she had to back out due to some serious health issues that she started to have. You have broken through a pretty heavy barrier. Congratulations and Best Wishes. Every day as a Technician is a learning experience, never be afraid to learn from anyone or try something new and expand your horizons.

@@weldingjunkie There are many types of barriers. In addition to the workplace barrier, which I agree has greatly diminished. There is a Social Barrier such as "this is not work suited for a Lady". A lot of women cannot get past that stigma.

Lets be real. There is no barrier. There isn't an intelligence issue. Yes, men like women sexually...whats new. If she is hot, great, but Can she DO THE JOB? WILL SHE DO THE LONG HARD WORK, WITHOUT COMPLAINING? WILL SHE PUT THE TEAM 1ST BEFORE HER "NAILS"? Let us worry about the horn dogs and idiots, if she is valuable to the team and ACTUALLY wants to be there for the right reasons. Its not an aptitude issue...its an attitude issue. Women are more capable, educated and welcome to join, THEY JUST DON'T WANT TO or ARE TOO DAMN LAZY/CUTE to get dirty.

I have heard so many times from women, and especially in comments here on KZitem, that "men won't let women into these jobs", or that men are extra hard on them. Not the case at all. Men don't give a rat's ass if a willing woman tries, and if a girl can pull her weight, we're all for it. So many have a self defeating attitude and won't even try to enter, and let's be real, they don't actually want to give it a shot either. They'd rather stick to feminist talking points. It's tough work, and even men can hate it many days. As to the men being hard on them... bull. We treat them as equals, and then we get dumped on for it. Women shouldn't go into traditionally male spaces and be surprised that the male dynamic is entirely different than what they're used to, and that we give each other hell constantly. It's just equality. I grew up on a small farm. When I was younger and learning to weld myself in high school, my mother took a community college welding class to improve her rather miserable skills at the time, and everyone there was absolutely helpful to her and treated her well. This was back in the 1990s. Do your part, be eager to learn, and you'll be accepted. Complain constantly, or become a workplace sexual harassment case risk because you don't like a coworker, and they'll avoid you. (Seen that last one happen personally).

I used to work in a foundry. Oxygen lances were in pretty common use in a couple of stations in the plant: the furnace floor and the hub cutter. We used oxy-acetylene to heat (melt) the working end of the lance, then started the oxy flow. The result was an impressive display of globs of molten steel.

brakes lines is exactly what is started with when trying to make these because they were the only steel tubes i could find locally at the time along with a weak medical oxy tank i had that barely put out a psi of working pressure ,and them lines were expensive too then i found metal store that carries 1/4" od steel tubing and i stocked up buying many rolls and purchased a small 60cuf oxy tank with regulator and hose and built my own gun holder for the lances i made some that were packed with only steel rods and others i tried with aluminium in the mix as well, lotta fun cutting through shit even underwater and showing off to buddies

What are the O² psi requirements for the small and large lance? Curious on how long a H or M tank would last. Do you HAVE to use an O² bottle due to the actual % of oxygen in the bottle? Or could I get away with a bottle filled with atmospheric air? (Like our 2216 psi bottles on the FD)? Seems like a great option for odd rescue situations.
