Today was my first day using it in clinic. I’m a Diabetes Educator and I can’t seem to work my way around it. But I’m not going to quit. Must be a learning curve.

After using it for a month, do you wish you would have gone with the iPad mini (fits in white coat) or are you happy with the iPad Air? Thanks! Edit: also, I think you’ve got some really great insight as a first year and totally agree with the need to better educate patients. Good work, sir!

Thanks for this video. I'm looking for ways to become more efficient as well. I'm surprised how few videos are available on this topic and amazed how far behind medical professionals are in terms of technology as a whole.

Agreed! There is so much room for improvement but the medical field seems so behind the times, and it’s hard to find out who to talk to in order to make improvements!

1. Good explainer on why you find the iPad+MKB useful as a doctor. Getting insights into how life is like as a doctor in Berkeley is nice. It's a experience most of us only learn about through tv shows lol. B. AnDroID iS BeTTA! Love the zoom in on the cat lol.

Haha I’m glad you enjoyed the zoom in on our cat named Fifa :) I definitely am looking forward to keeping you guys updated on how using the iPad in the hospital is like. And also I do still use android for my phone (Samsung Note 9) but I have to say I am considering switching to the dark side . . . XD

@@ConanLiuMD As a cat person myself, it was appreciated :P. Been contemplating it myself for a while now. Only thing keeping me is the fact Google Assistant is just sooooooo much better than Siri. Being able to talk to my home and have displays everywhere etc. kinda hard to beat.

Was in residency six years ago, back then trying to iPad round, the interface was atrocious and made things worse. Ended up using MacBook Air at the time that worked well but completely agree with you that the interface/technology is light years behind where it should be, such a shame. We have Epic in our current system, doing outpatient practice, and even in that setting I feel like the teaching on how to use the functionality is still just garbage. Should be able to search how to do some thing on KZitem or even the Epic website but trying to do that is difficult.

Thank you so much for your comment, I totally agree with you and my experiment with the iPad really ended up kind of failing. It was a nice try however and I do feel like in the future they may be able to get this right. Also I think iPad Minis may be more useful in the hospital setting just because of the convenience factor, so I'm going to try that out as well. But like you I also ended up recently getting a Macbook Air (always been a PC guy before this) - you still really can't beat the power of having an actual laptop!

Omg this is really helpful!! Now I'm convinced to buy an ipad 🙏🏻 which one u think more worthy for doctor, ipad air 2020 or ipad pro 2021?
@ConanLiuMD

Air should be sufficient in my opinion! I still need to make an update video on how using it in the hospital has been going... just a word of caution - I have definitely enjoyed using it but it hasn't been QUITE as good as I was hoping haha

Have you found a hands-free way to carry your iPad around the hospital? Supersized white coat pocket...? My fear is that I would end up leaving it in a patient room or a random table. Already happens all the time with my patient lists and scutwork papers haha

I'm considering getting some kind of shoulder bag like this: smile.amazon.com/tomtoc-10-5-11-Shoulder-Microsoft-Keyboard/dp/B078RKMJMT/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=ipad+shoulder+bag&qid=1615761433&sr=8-5 It would also be useful to carry other things that I never normally carry but would be useful to have, like reflex hammer and penlights and other medical items. I haven't been able to test things out yet since I've been outpatient but I'll be going back to inpatient soon so I'm looking forward to trying it out then :)

Great video! Have you thought about also getting a stylus? I'm in vet med but I use my Surface Pro for basically all the stuff you talked about. I'm more of a handwritten notes kind of guy, and I like the option of being able to quickly draw figures and diagrams that are color coded. The keyboard is definitely a blessing/curse type thing for me. It's either getting in your way while walking around or in your bag when you need it. It's the one thing I don't like about the Surface: can't flip the keyboard all the way back (looks like you can do that with your iPad though).

I haven’t gotten the Apple Pencil yet but I’ve heard it is REALLY good. I think if I was still taking notes I would definitely get it, or if I was someone who did any art/design. Nowadays I’m not taking a ton of notes on lectures anymore so I’m holding off for now but maybe in the future I would get it :) I definitely think that getting a stylus adds a new dimension to how useful these tablets/laptops can be!

how do you handle getting gown and ungown with contract precautions? where do you put the ipad when dressing? I use a surface go now and it hangs from a strap but hate the Go as the battery barely last 4 hours. I see some cases with a strap for the ipad but none seem to also fit the keyboard.

Wait... what EMR software does your hospital use where you can finish notes, input orders, and pull up labs from your iPad?
@ConanLiuMD
3 жыл бұрын
Update video coming soon . . . the answer is Epic, but the longer answer is that it isn't quite as smooth as I would hope for and writing notes is too clunky
@cathompson58

I have been trying to do this for years and no EMR software works well on the iPad .. you spend more time trying to navigate on the screen than going to a desktop .. this is a shame but EMR companies could care less about Physician’s efficiency.. they only want billing and demographics they can sell ., you are in for a frustrating experience and a lot of wasted time/money trying to get these things to work ..
