@@mikesunboxing Hey Mike. Would'nt you elaborate on what you did when first attempt failed? Got the exact same board. Had the exact same problem. LED light blinked for around 5-8 secs then started glowing constantly red, just like in your case. I had prepared an MBR FAT32 usb using Rufus with the FreeDos seeting, deleting the files it created to then copy the one and only bios file onto readily made USB, renaming it ofc. What I did after the first attempt failed was to: 1. Shut off PSU, unplug power cord and removing USB. 2. Clearing CMOS as instructed in the manual with JBAT1. 3. Plugging in power cord. turning on PSU. 4. Insert a different appropriately formatted USB and press Flash Bios Button. I repeated this 5 times. Same result.. Constant red light. I waited 15 min the first time and 20 min the second time. I event went ahead and plugged everything backup after I saw your fix-video you linked to above, following the same steps as you. Same result. :( I was so stoked to get my build ready, damn.. I had issues joining your discord btw,. Could'nt see or chat in the messageboards even after waiting out those 10 min. But yea, i might just have a DOA board. I'd still love some feedback from all of ye as i'll probs be getting a new board cause of warranty.

Just flashed my new MSI MPG B550 Gaming Carbon WiFi, and it worked perfectly! Thanks for this great video! It's really the best one I've found. However, some others recommend using an older USB 2.0 instead of the newer USB 3.0, and also smaller capacity on the drive, like no more than 16GB. I purchased an 8GB 2.0 just for this task. The flashing took about 5 minutes to complete, and the system shut down and then restarted just like you show. I completely forgot to remove my RAM. But no CPU, NVMe M.2 or GPU were installed. Also had the power to my RGB unplugged, but all the fans were plugged in and came on, including the fans and RGB on my AIO. Keeping my fingers crossed this did not cause any harm.

I used a similar process on my Aorus X670E Extreme - the major difference being that it does not matter what it on the board you could have the system fully built or just a bare board, throw the USB on and press the button - and the button which has an LED flashes away for a while and when it finishes the machine reboots. All done. All systems should have this.
@TracyArmstrong01

So.. it appears that the USB drive itself is very important in this process. I tried five different sticks and only one work... four sticks caused my red light to flash non-stop, but the board did not power cycle. I waited about 30 minutes for all of the attempts. They were 64 GB, 32GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 8GB. The last 8GB worked. Here a clue the USB drive wont work on your MSI B550 when you go to format it... if it automatically tries to format in any other format other than FAT32... it may not work. If you try to force format to FAT32 in the CMD prompt, the BIOS flash may still not work. If its a large format drive greater than 64gig.. it may not work ( it appears the smaller the drive, the better). Good luck everyone!!! I hope this advice helps a little!

Apparently, according to another video that I watched, the reason some USBs don't work is that the flash BIOS function doesn't detect 3.0 USBs, only 2.0. It's really odd indeed but that's ostensibly the explanation.

@@mikesunboxing Thanks! I already got a USB that I'm confident will work as I've previously used it to flash without issues, but this video will be very helpful in the event it doesn't work on the new motherboard that I'll be getting :) (just aiming to get an update right out the gate to make sure the board will work with my current components after upgrading)

Had laptops for the past 10+ years and the grandpa monitor wasn't up to par. Guys, don't be lazy, if there is no signal then just plug into HDMI from TV to see. I flashed bios for nothing. Lazy troubleshooting. Thank you for this content ( And a few other videos. I didn't watch just one ). Did it help? Well, it all boots. Regular 32 gig SanDisk on an MSI B550 A Pro, Ryzen 5 5500. Didn't unplug a thing ( Everyone says something different. Some say disassemble the system, some say just leave it. Worked for me. ) Just ended up updating bios in a roundabout way. Only Windows left.

i think most will get to the point of a fully built system before realising something is wrong so i suggest removing the RAM at least to prevent it trying to boot up, but really however you get there is fine

NOTE!!! for those of you reporting black/blank screen after inserting USB drive, rebooting, and starting the FLASH in BIOS. This happened to me and i was so frustrated. I fixed it by unplugging my external USB hard drive. I think it was causing a delay in the BIOS update because it was trying to scan my 4 GB drive. I waited and waited (ok i was not super patient) but the firmware selection screen never appeared, just a black/blank screen (screen was on). Unplugged the USB external drive from my PC and rebooted with the USB stick plugged in that had the firmware update on it, went into BIOS to do Flash, and everything worked as expected.

Great video! I was wondering how I can check if my new MSI B550-A PRO Motherboard will need the bios update if im putting a ryzen 7 5800x in it? is there a way I can see what bios version will come pre-loaded on the board and if I need to flashback before putting in parts to see if it works. Thanks in advance!

sadly there is no way of telling the bios revision even brand new boards might still not have the 5000 series bios on there. I would build as a test bench outside the case see if it boots if not flash then test and finally build

recently to switch processor from Ryzen 5 3600x to Ryzen 7 5700x with a B550 Gaming Edge Wifi Board. put everything back and no boot, no display but the fans were fast and loud, only to realized that i forgot to update the bios. and found your tutorial very helpful. used 2 USB Sticks, a SanDisk(apple green) 8gb and a Kingston (black) 8gb. SanDisk one didnt work, updating took way too long, unlimited red blinking (hours) the Kingston one work, although I have to change GPT to MBR for the USB Stick. update/bios flash done in 7 to 10mins. thanks!

After a failed 550 MSI flash, it wouldn't stop flashing EVER... I got a replacement 550 bazooka, did the same usb, same formatting, same method, same PSU, worked first try on my still sealed bored, 550m bazooka. The led turned off and it rebooted as it should. Mine wouldn't post with a on the box ready series CPU either. This confirms the old board is bricked if the rear led doesn't stop flashing ever! Hope this helps someone return theirs sooner if they encounter this. Video uploader, investigate this and post more info in the description

Hi, I see you still answer the comments, that's very nice of you! I got a problem. I do exactly everything right, but red light flashes infinitely (tried few times 3 different USBs and it is still flashing for over a hour). What can cause that? Do you think MoBo is dead now? Or is there any fix? I scrolled through hundreds of comments but didn't find any way to fix that. CPU led is flashing, the problem is 100% in MoBo because everything works fine with other MoBo. Sorry for my English it's not my original language. Hope you'll help me someway!
