This might sound like a silly question however, when targeting your audience, is it "cheating" to directly target a competing brand or store that offers similar products and services? Wouldn't that be a better start than something somewhat as elusive as an author who might appeal to varying niches? Thanks in advance.
@MilesB
7 жыл бұрын
Definitely not cheating! Couple things... I do info-products, so authors and books 'fit' with what I do very well... I teach what I know. Second, if it is a HUGE brand or store, like 'WalMart' by targeting them you are going to be too broad and have thousands of other advertisers competing with you for those users. Plus, if they bought the widget that fixes their problem and 'liked it' on FB... Do they need another one? Maybe... If it is consumable. But if they've itched the scratch, it isn't a good audience. The deeper you go in the interests, the more you find the ones that very few (if any) advertisers are targeting AND that are hyper-relevant... So you get a good deal and have a high probability of converting! So what 'problems' does this hypothetical brand/store solve for people? Image? DIY home repair? Gardening supplies? Then, once you figure that out, what books and authors teach people how to do this too? People who are buying and liking books on the topic are interested in information (and products) that can solve their problems.

Miles, ok...ready for my first official facebook ad with a real product(online course). I think I got it, but...is this what your telling us: 1. Create an ad. 2. Create several 'sets' of different audiences, one per set(I was able to come up with 15). 3. create the sets using the original ad, so not different ads, but different sets of audiences. 4. $5 a day PER SET and then watch closely to see what SET is doing the best. 5. Close the SETS that aren't performing well and increase the budget to the few that are. But in all, Don't change the ad...just the audience? Just in case anyone else is slow on the uptake like I am...thanks for all you do Miles...you're one of the few HONEST people out here anymore...

Great video Miles, thanks for all the helpful tips. I see how if you're selling a product your video would be spot on, but what advice or tips would you have for someone who is trying to gain leads for a motivational speaker to get hired? I have a booking agency and want to market my speakers to get booked for speaking gigs. How would I begin targeting my audience and setting up ads to be hired essentially? Any advice would be awesome, thanks for your time and keep the videos coming!
@MilesB
7 жыл бұрын
So, you gotta start with who you are reaching out to... Who books speakers? Then, what are their problems/needs? Then, what are their online browsing habits? You may find that Facebook is not the place to advertise... You may find that most of the people trying to book talent are searching KZitem looking for keynote speakers and having KZitem ads that lead to a free video demo of a keynote of your performer would work better... It is all about getting into the head/heart/life of the person who ultimately books your clients... Then reverse engineering what she does, her behaviors, where she looks, how she looks, etc... From this, you can find out where she spends her time *when looking for speakers* and get your message to show up there... Displaying your ad to her at night after she is home may not work... And she may not be on Facebook during the day when she is thinking about this problem... I have no data to back that all up, just gut instinct.... Testing will tell for sure. Just wanted to give you some additional ideas to think about.

Thanks Miles. We do target parents age 25-55. Mostly moms (female). I just find it challenging to build different audiences based on the criteria of my ideal client, it gets blind pretty quickly and we stop getting leads. I also target different areas and play with postal codes. Would you suggest to play with different ages, gender or parents categories. Right now I target all parent. Also. would you still target a small audience of 2K? I found it from my biggest competitor. Please advise.

Hi Miles, I'm a touring musician. How can I use Facebook to attract audience to a concert in a particular place? I thought about exposure in the pre-arrival period ( about a month ) with building a relevant audience based on what you taught in your videos to build a custom engaged audience . Then publish the concert details for the relevant local audience ( as an event??). Does this strategy sound reasonable to you and what campaign options would you choose? Thanks you for sharing and giving.
@MilesB

A big question is going to be what the value of the audience is... Could get expensive quick and if you aren't earning $20 - $40 each, then it could be cashflow negative. I'd advertise afternoon of, super short notice... Catch the people who are bored and on their phone looking at Facebook, but within a couple miles of the venue. Building up an email list and an audience on KZitem, Google, etc is a great long term plan.

This have been REALLY helpful. Just to clarify. Do you end up using the big names like, Tony Robbins? Or just the smaller or other 'interests'? And do you plug in all 30 in your facebook ads?
@MilesB
7 жыл бұрын
My goal is to find the most relevant, whether they are big names or small names. To get a list of 30, the big names usually come 'easily' and then I have to dig in to Amazon, Google, FB and YT to find the smaller ones. I do mash all of them into the adset, but sometimes, if I have one really really big interest (like Tony Robbins being 2.5 million where the other 29 add up to 2 million) I would split test them against eachother to see what my cost per customer is with both and then adjust my approach accordingly.

This is really great! Can't believe you dished out this info for free. I have a question please, is it possible to install Facebook pixel in a Facebook page instead your website???.
@MilesB
6 жыл бұрын
Cheers Harrison. Glad you like this one! you can't install a pixel on the fan page, but you do have the ability to analyze audiences and re-target people who like your fan page… As well as people who engage with posts on your fan page, etc. so although they don't give you the ability to add the pixel, you do have some abilities to leverage the benefits of the pixel since it's on Facebook platform

Thank you for this amazing video!!! Do you limit each item to keep only those that have an audience of between 50,000-2 million when they stand alone? Also, do you aim to put on the list the lesser known names so the CPL is more likely to be lower, or you sample everything and see what results show up in the testing?
@MilesB
5 жыл бұрын
I don't really limit them. If I'm able to target them with an ad set I do even if they're small… I just don't put large budgets towards small audiences, but I keep them all separated when I run ads because I want to be able to test them against each other to find out which audience segments give me the best return on investment

Dude! You are the man! Best Facebook Audience tutorial out there. Thank you for sharing. One question. Do we add literally 30 interest or is that a number you want us researching? That wasn't clear. Thanks

Research 30... Then when you run ads put 1 audience pet ad set to test them against each other

Miles Beckler....Whoa. So create up to 30 ad sets per campaign? For instance we're a beauty brand. I create makeup ad, select my custom audience but dont add any interest until after the ad is created than add 10 or 20 ad sets under that campaign each with a different competitor in each one. Correct? Like my first audience would be competitor one, next audience would be competitor two and so on?

This is my favorite you tube video EVER!!! Thank you and you have just gained a new fan!! One quick question, a lot of my competitors are not coming up when I type them in, only one so far, am I doing something wrong?
@MilesB
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words… And I appreciate your comment! You are not doing anything wrong... Facebook simply does not display many of their fan pages or groups as "interests" that we can market to. No one knows why that's just how they roll. It just requires you to do some more research to find the brands in books and authors and blogs that do have presences on Facebook you can target… And the good news is that your competition is probably not going to do that much research, so when you find a few of those hidden gems you will likely be one of the only advertisers focusing on that audience. My niche is very obscure and it took quite some time for me to find my core group of audiences that I've been able to market to for years now.

Thanks Miles. Once you've gathered the information on the pages they like, stores, etc. how does the information then become applicable? I noticed that you can't add Facebook pages in the "Detailed Targeting" section of creating a campaign, so I'm trying to understand how/where to use the pertinent information that you took the time to gather. Thanks!

Great video, I have been watching your videos for a while now, and wanted to start from the first video and watch the full playlist of FaceBook ads how to videos. This is the first one in the series. My question is this, when I go to video 2 it talks about funnel math etc. Feel like I need more info before I go to funnel math. Basically what do I do with these 30 items (perhaps you mention it and I missed it). Do I create 30 ad sets with 30 different audiences? Do I throw some out and only pick the top 15? Do I through all 30 into one audience? Thanks!

Hey man. I am from brazil, I just found you on the KZitem and I am loving your tips. Thanks. One big doubt I always has, how big must to be the audience for running a campaign, if i am not wrong, said about 300 500k "If is not that sorry about my no too good English. " And how to balance budget for that audience size.? I meant because I pay to much people are starting to see the ads over and over again and I will just losing money through away. Thanks for the video man.

Great video! didn't know this tool existed. My ads have been running for a few days and I have noticed some trends like 25-35 year old's producing a poor CPC. Will facebook automatically optimize this by showing my ads to fewer people in this age group or should I be tweaking my filters manually?
@MilesB

It depends on what kind of campaign you're running… If you're running a website conversion campaign, yes they will optimize for the type of people who convert

Hi Miles, how would I use this for selling term life insurance? When everyone needs it and it’s not exactly something people “like”. Thanks for all the value.
@MilesB
6 жыл бұрын
Gotta get more creative... What is the point in life when people start thinking about term ins? When does it become 'urgent' that they buy? Then what else is going on in their world that they would like? Could be 'liking gerber baby food' because they have a baby now and it matters. Don't be too literal in the tool... Get in the user's head.... Get in their mindset, their life story, paint a REAL picture.

I'm using Facebook Business Manager for my business page, it's great for ads although when I try and boost posts and other stuff it won't allow me. Miles, I am new to this marketing game and your videos are very helpful. I'm a startup company and am targeting US farmers. My biggest competitor has 200k - 250k monthly active people on facebook. My 10 direct competitors in my niche is agriculture don't even show up in the interests search. Is my best play to directly target the page with 200-250k followers? My trouble is when I try to find 30 companies as your video suggests, I actually get into a less focused group of people.

+Kyle McMahon also look at what your perfect potential customer also buys and loves! A brand of tractor? A feed or farm supply company? Think of that next layer of relevance to their needs/wants/desires
