Hey everyone! All the information you may need is in the description (timestamps, computer specs, plugin support, etc.) One thing I will add is that you can not record live audio in this DAW but could easily use something like Audacity to compliment this DAW if you do vocals or play an instrument. Thanks for watching, let me know you stopped by and say hello! 😉

A few things I feel are worth mentioning as I watch: If you place your samples in [LMMS Working Directory]/samples, they'll show up in the samples tab in the sidebar. The working directory can be configured in the preferences menu. (You might even be able to symlink to your existing sample folders inside the directory, I don't recall if this works or not.) In addition, you can place automations of different types on the same track, should you feel like it, or connect several controls to the same clip. An unintuitive but useful song editor feature is that if you start dragging a clip and *then* hit ctrl, you can fine adjust the position. The controller rack lists not only LFOs but also peak controllers, when they're added (via an instrument/sample track/mixer channel's effect chain). All in all though, this is a well researched video! You bring up a lot of less obvious features that other tutorials miss :)
@TransverseAudio

Very interesting, thank you for mentioning these additional features, although I think I did mention double clicking on the piano roll. Thanks, this is a good UI intro to LMMS. However, as basically a "day 1 noob" who is unable to appreciate what most of these features are, or how/when to use them, I still am left like a deer in headlights. Do you have any suggestions for getting started, with the basic concepts, when they are useful, and how they work together? I'd be interested in a hand-holding through the creation of a short piece, starting from a new empty project, explaining the how/why of each step that is done until it's "finished", without assuming the watcher knows anything about it. The way these things are used in real workflow, and to see a peek at the thought process behind it, would be invaluable. Thanks!

I think you want a general music creation tutorial, you can find those anywhere and apply them to LMMS with the help of this video, because it just shows you how to use this particular set of tools. Making music or any art is more about what you do with those tools, high level concepts.

Here is my suggestion to the developers of LMMS: 1) Add the ability to drive an external MIDI enabled instrument. 2) Add a SMPTE OUT, and a SIMPTE IN that will track an external SMPTE source. This would move LMMS into the world of real production. ANY sequencer program must be able to drive and be driven externally. Jim

@TransverseAudio
5 жыл бұрын
Thank you and yes, I think you could. Just look at the demo tracks, some of them are really good! Depending on the genre of the game, you may need to get 3rd-party plugins like orchestral samplers or something as this DAW has good chiptune and retro sounds that come with it.

When I firsf started, I found it a little bit confusing past the piano roll, sequencer, and volume sliders in the mixer. However, in the beginning, that's all you really need to know to practice. Once I got past the hurdle of learning how to use an EQ and other basic effects, it made it a lot easier to write music.

@TransverseAudio

@@arinjoyroy4287 It does it automatically. Unless you mean cut it inside the playlist - which you, unfortunately, can not do. But, you can create an automation clip for the volume and make a hard switch from 0 to 100% right where you want the sample to start, and then you can just slide the ending to where you want it to end.

Do you mean in my voice, is it all the time you find? It's either just the way I talk or it has to do with me cutting the background noise as close as I can to my voice in post production. Could also be me just cutting out a word before it, etc.
