Hey there! I know you can change lenses mid-roll. But can you change view finders mid-roll without exposing? I assume but just checking with someone else!

Of course you can :) the image comes from the mirror so you dont need to worry about exposing film when changing from waist level viewfinder to other types :)

Hi, you never mentioned ISO ? I’m not sure how to set ISO speed on my mamiya 645 1000s Can you help ? Thanks 🙏 Keep up the good work. Tom.

ISO setting is only on the light meter prism shown at 13:20 :) the mamiya body doesnt have an ISO setting since it doesnt have any light meter :)

@@grainificent cool thank you so much ☺️ so the camera knows what speed film it has in it ,? Sorry I’m a total beginner and just literally loaded my first film ilford hp5 … ready for my first shot 👌.

@@tommymonolo no, it doesnt :) you should use the sunny 16 rule or an external light meter. you csn find many light meter aps for free for your phone and there you put in the iso film you have, the aperture you want and the app tells you what speed you need :) the sunny 16 rule in short: if you have film hp5+ - thats 400 iso so you set the speed to 1/500s (closest to the film iso) and then for good exposure you only use the aperture: f16 in great sunlight (thats why its sunny 16) f8 with some clouds or a cloudy day f5.6 for taking photos in small shade f4 for darker shade taking photos indoors is very tricky due to the fact that the human eye adapts and you can't really figure out good exposure. its always better to overexpose a little than to underexpose film. i always advise using Fomapan 400 film for trying film photography. can be less than half of the cost of ilford film so you can take more photos at the same price and experiment :)

@@grainificent Thanks so much … I took one shot indoors at f4 2secs exposure .. I’m so curious to see how that went … Thanks again. Tommy.

@@tommymonolo hopefully it was on a tripod or standing on something and not handheld :) sounds long for a 400 ISO film but it shouldn't be too bad. overexposure is better than underexposure :) i was thinking once about starting a little series where i showcase film photography from my viewers first roll of film :) if you would be interested, you can send me some scans when you get it developed :)

Hi, so I have a mamiya 645 1000s, and when I advance the film, sometimes the lever only goes around once and it is ready to shoot, but other times it clicks through and I have the really light rotation around. It is completely random and I haven't shot it yet. I was wondering if that was normal or not?

hello my friend! sorry for the long wait for the reply. i had to check my own if anything like that happens and i really never noticed it does that. i think i know what you mean. i never had any problems with it when shooting film, but i never played much with releasing the shutter without film in it other than to check if it works and didn't notice the fact that it sometimes winds and stops after a turn and sometimes goes 2 turns (lightly after the first one). but i never had any problems with it when shooting film so i assume its just something that happens without film inside. i just shot it recently and will have a short about that soon and no problems at all. so wish you luck with shooting! i was thinking about starting a little series where i show photos taken by my subscribers so if you would like to show your photos then subscribe and send them over when you got them :)

I have the same problem and thought it was broken, I guess it just needs film in it

from what i read, its just how it regulates film spacing with winding the shutter.

New to 645 family...great video! Have 645 1000s n lower shutter speeds are off a few seconds...ex: 8sec is actually 12sec duration n bulb intermittent...you happen to know any places for repair services for these types of cameras? Thx

You should test it on film and decide if you even use such long times. If the regular times give satisfactory exposures then its nothing much to worry about. Technically the repair shouldnt be hard but since i dont know of any good shop i can recomend with my heart then there are risks. Also for many second long exposures you need to take into account film reciprocity. (If your light meter shows 8s exposure, in reality you need about 1 min due to reciprocity failure of film) if tge regular times are close to normal, it will be completely useable. If money is not a problem, and you need top notch performance, then look in your own area for little camera repair shops. Local is usually best option to make freindships at :) wish you many amazing photos and thank you for watching! 😃
