"powered rail will last for a good long while, about 20 blocks or so" You can see the table of speed vs. powered rail distance in the wiki. 33 spaces will get you to the maximum of 8m/s. I put mine at 30 because I place torches every 10 while building and it makes it easy to count out.

A good tool tip I've found with powered rails. Use two detector rails with three powered rails between the two detector rails and you can send a minecart a fairly lengthy distance (I've measured about 25-50 blocks on average for the various carts) saving you a lot of grief on using too many powered rails and redstone blocks or torches.

I know minecart trains derail when going on a 90° corner, but i've never heard of solo minecarts derailing And before anyone comments about it, no minecart trains aren't just a modded thing, you can make them using furnace minecarts to attach 3 minecarts of any other type together, the problem is the derailing is broken so they derail on *ALL* slopes, and _sometimes_ on 45°turns If mojang ever fixes the derailing issues furnace minecarts would actually be decently useful

Great stuff but I wish he would've mentioned that whole mechanism where minecarts need to be up against a solid block to make them move via redstone and no player input. Like how a minecart on a powered rail with regular rails on each side will do nothing if you prefer the powered rail, but if one side of it is a solid block then the minecart will travel when the powered rail is powered. Maybe it's just obvious but I remember it took me a long time to figure that out when I started playing lol.

@@jornyca2786 I think that is a design one of the Hermitcraft guys came up with, maybe I'll find a tutorial some day. For now, here's how I think it's done: 《 = Dispenser (facing the way the arrows are pointing) ¤ = permanent water source < = observer (with 'face' texture facing right) ^ = observer (with 'face' texture facing down) ■ = block # = soul sand × = block that can hold back water that you can go through (e.g. open fence gate) • = air -- = redstone line _ = pressure plate [@] = pulse extender circuit 1 line size = 1 block in height ■ •《 < ^ ■ •《 < ^ ■ •《 < ^ ofc, for a longer elevator, just extend this part ■ ¤《 < ^ × •《 < ^ entrance on the left _ •《 < ^ side at this height ■ # ■■ ^ -[@]---------- ■ ■ ■■■ So I hope this little 2d illustration helped and was readable on your device. Keep in mind though that this is only how I think this would work based on Pixl's video. edit: added in the soul sand And just to clarify: the longer the elevator is, the more the pulse extender has to extend the pulse. I'd recommend using the pulse extender design where you have the signal decay by running it through comparators, but when you use it, you MUST put the output through a repeater before it is detected by the observer.

Actually, furnace minecarts do have a use. They are super useful for early game mod transport over long distances like a villager to your base. In the early game and basically, until you get a gold farm powered rails are really expensive so by using the furnace minecarts you can push other carts up and over any terrain for not much cost as long as you have regular rails set up which are much cheaper.

Since 1.14+, best way to maintain 95% of speed is 5-6 regular rails then a single powered rail. Extend that out with the 6 to 1 ratio, you can continue on a fairly flat distance at most of the speed. A few powered rails before a sight incline or more powered rails on uphill inclines will help keep the speed. There is no need to have 100% or even 50% powered rail along a straight longer run of mostly flat runs.

I always use the minecart with furnace, it's so good if you have it set up right. I have a jungle biome 31,000 blocks away from spawn that I like to transport pandas from and for me getting enough powered rails to cover this distance is just not doable even though my track is in the nether. When a minecart with a furnace pushes. Minecart into another they click together and form a pretty hard to break train. Haven't found it to work with well with any more than 2 carts but 2 seem to go literally forever as long as you set the initial momentum up correctly. Used it to create a loop track to jettison 10 or 12 2 cart long trains all the way to the end of my 4000 block long track to transport bridge building material for use in the nether.
