I would really like an advanced lesson about NE and I do like it when you do the videos in italian with english subtitles. That way I learn even more :-)

Question. "Non ne ho ricevuti abbastanza!". I had learned that the past participle does NOT change when used with 'avere'. In this case, why does 'ho ricevuto' change to 'ho ricevuti'? What am I missing? Help! :)

Since you asked, I can concentrate on the grammar lesson so much better if the audio is in English. When the audio is in English I absolutely love your grammar videos. For some reason my subtitles are always in Italian when you speak in Italian. I do think you are a great teacher!

My understanding is that the gender and number do not change in the passato prossimo when you use AVERE. Does using NE change that rule?

a better example would be to say that "I want every apple" instead of every appleS. Especially considering that in Italian, you could still say "ogni giorno" which is semantically the same as "every day" and they are both in singular noun form.

Ciao! Thanks for the video. I have a grammar book here that contradicts your guidance about agreement with past participles. Maybe the contradiction has to do with levels of formality (formal vs. informal speech)? Anyway, this grammar book says: "If _ne_ [...] accompanies expressions of quantity, there is normally no agreement with the past participle." >> Example: Quanto quadri hanno rubato? Ne hanno RUBATO tre. According to your video, it should be RUBATI, to agree with QUADRI. Can you help make sense of this contradiction? If I had to guess, I'd guess that invariable (non-agreeing) RUBATO in the above example would be more informal than RUBATI. Is that possible? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Ciao! The grammar book is just very very wrong! We always match the gender of the past participle with the noun replaced by NE when NE is referring to quantity and this does not have anything to do with formal/informal speech. Un abbraccio :)

@@teacherstefano Okay, thanks for that assertive answer. I checked with an Italian colleague who works with me as a Google linguist, from Pisa, and she agrees with you 🙂 Just so you know, the book I'm referring to is... _Da Capo: A Review Grammar,_ by Graziana Lazzarino (1979), page 130.

Ciao Stefano, I came across a case where your explanation here did not apply. And I don't understand it. I am JUST being introduced to "ne" and wanted to understand it better. What you have explained in this video made perfect sense...but I could not apply it to this sentence for example: "Me ne vado a casa". There are no numbers here, and I don't understand why ne is used in this case. Thanks for your help in advance

The position of the pronoun NE is important. The reason why you do the agreement is because the pronoun is placed before the auxiliary. You say ho letto tre libri but you say ne ho letti tre.

love your channel; grammar should always be taught in the native language of the students, at least the basics and the more complicated aspects. Grammar is a technical aspect of language; why make student struggle with the technical components of a language they don't know. In parole povere, "ne" in English per cortesia. grazie
