Good video, but I have a question. There are sentences on Duolingo that use "te" without the "om". Like "Ik durf niet te zwemmen" for example. Is there a way to know when I am supposed to use "om" with the "te" or does it not matter?

It does matter : om te has a more " in order to " vibe to it for instance : Ik studeer om mijn diploma te behalen ( I study ' in order to ' get my degree). If you use an auxiliary verb as durven which is not a modal verb such as ( willen, zullen, moeten, kunnen and mogen) you need to add that TE before your second verb / main infinitive to be grammatically correct.

Hallo, bedankt voor deze goed video. Ik heb een vraag. 9:19 Mag ik gebruiken de eerste zin zonder "om"? (Hij gaat naar bed te slapen)

Hallo Susan, de correcte zin is : hij gaat naar bed OM te slapen.

English is weird with this for example we would say “ I have a telephone with which to call” or “ I have a telephone from which to make calls” - For “ik heb een telefoon om te bellen”. But really we would never say that we would just say “I have a phone” or maybe “I have a phone to use”
