Today I ordered a Kiehl's night mak, it has 10,5% squalene, it is the Ultra facial line. I have been using the toner if this line and it changed my skin for the better. I have been using Tretinoin for years and know I can tolerate it much better. I always use Spf 50 during the day, Bioderma is very delicate on my skin, not irritating at all.

It's a very sensitive, reactive part of the face, around the mucous membranes. Always the first place that absolutely anything irritating to my sensitive skin first reacts, even benign things like cleansers. I can't tolerate strong retinols, so I use granactive retinoid instead. So long as I slather on a layer of ointment (I use one by Vanicream) all around my lips and slightly outside the lip line first, I can use the milder form in the area. Protect your mucous membranes and start slow to see if you can tolerate it there.
@PiXie232

Yes it’s *totally fine* to use there if you don’t have any problems. I actually have very reactive, sensitive skin, but for some reason, I tolerate compound 1% Tretinoin/niacinimide/Azealic acid just fine. I use it all over my face, neck, chest and arms. And even my legs when I’m not feeling lazy lol.. (I have a lot of scarring on my arms and legs so that’s one reason why I use it on my body.) But I’ve never had any problems whatsoever around my mouth area. There’s been a few times when I’ve stopped using it for a week or two and when I started back up on it, I got some slight peeling for a few days, but that’s it. I never had purging or anything either. That’s the only “negative” thing per se that’s ever happened to my skin from tretinoin.

Yes, it’s fine to use it around the mouth.. try doing it like you mentioned first, by doing it as your last step after you moisturize.. and if you’re tolerating it fine, then start doing it as the first thing you put on after washing your face. Just make sure to let it soak in for about 10 minutes before you apply anything else. I usually brush my teeth and floss during that time period and then I finish my skincare:) But I have really reactive skin and I’m able to use Tretinoin all over my face/neck/chest just fine:) Just start out at a low dose and a few times a week and slowly build up from there if you’re not used to it. But if you notice that your skin is red and irritated even after using Tretinoin as your last step after moisturizing, then I wouldn’t use it around your mouth area, or like I said before, use a low percentage retinol instead of Tretinoin and slowly work your way up over months and months. If your skin starts tolerating it, then go from there. Everyone’s skin is different so just test the waters and see how you respond.. just start slowly:)
