So I followed everything. Renamed the bios on my pc. Grabbed the cap file and put on usb stick. Installed the usb, pressed the button. The led blinked for a few seconds, then after solid led. So according to you if the light was solid it must not have liked my usb. So now do I just need to go to another pc, and a new/different usb stick, then copy cap again and plug and push the button? I am afraid to turn on the pc that I just tried to update.

If it only flashed for a few seconds, that means that it didn't do anything. It takes 5-6 minutes to erase and rewrite the BIOS information. You can't leave it like it is forever. You have to unplug it and then start over. This procedure does not tolerate any errors. It is looking for a file with a specific name in a specific location that is also the correct BIOS file for your exact motherboard model.

What if my green led next to bios usb port after pressing button flashed few times and than just stays lit? Mo bo ASUS ROG Strix B560G-Gaming Wi-Fi. Also 10 min later led is still solid on. No blinking. What should i do? What happened to my pc. Yesterday i downloaded Armoury Crate alternative called G-Helper or so. Because Armoury crate was glitching allot especially after i changed pc case from original ROG case to Vetroo AL800. Which allowed me to install 360mm watercooling for CPU and 10 total 120mm rgb fans. I plugged fans straight to 3pin rgb connectors on motherbo.. Before that nothing was plugged there. Rog case had built in rgb lights that was controlled from Armoury Crate. Now Armoury crate one time would turn on my fans rgb one time would not one time wouldnt start only crash every time i try to start it untill pc reset. So i found some alternative g-helper. This program suggested to update my bios. So i downloaded it runned as instalation file. It arked for reboot. Rebooted and left my pc running without any signal to the screen. Power on fans on nothing happends. I waited like 20min or more. Than power button hard reset. And since than pc is not working. Cant enter bios dont have any signal to the screen power on or off. Downloaded bios flash file trying to do what youre talking about. Now my green led is on flash memory inserted. At least half an hour passed. What should i do?

I figured it out: if you have solid green. Its not working. It must blink for few minutes if your bios is being updated. The problem was my PC was sold prebuilt and it doesn't have regular Rog strix B560M bios version. Instead it have special bios version made for this PC. Pc model is G15CE and Asus have special bios version for G15CE. Downloaded that bios flash version from asus. You need to rename the file to G15CE.CAP and place it on empty formatet with fat32 format flash memory card. But thats if you have same prebuilt Asus Rog STRIX model G15CE

That usually means that the system cannot read the BIOS file from your USB drive. Maybe you downloaded the BIOS for a different model motherboard, maybe you did not unzip it or rename it properly. Maybe your USB drive is not formatted with FAT32. Perhaps the renamed BIOS file is not in the root of the USB drive.

Because many/most people don't flash their BIOS using this method. Instead, they use the built-in method in the BIOS setup program (where the file name does not matter). For the procedure shown in this video, the exact file name does matter (a lot).

Thanks Glen. You did a similar one several months ago with a different Asus model and I commented that I was going to build a new system soon and I had the exact same Usb drive as yours. Finally committed to build by year's end and it worked on the first try (same model as on this video, with a 5800X3D). I had to RMA the motherboard for an unrelated matter. Flashing the second board, it failed. I had unzipped the file directly on the Usb drive, so it was embedded in the created folder. Moved the file out of the folder, deleted said folder, tried again and Bingo🙂. Perhaps I should add the following for those with high capacity drives (Greater than 8 Gig). Delete the partition using the Windows Disk Management tool, create a new partition and give it a size of 8192 Mb, that will give you exactly 8 Gig. Then it should work. Cheers.

Is there any video input during this? For me it blinks as you said, for about 5 mins... (Give or take) and then stops blinking. It never "powers on". I am trying to fix a no-display issue. My motherboard was working fine until it suddenly stopped. It may be beyond a bios issue but I am hoping to try this before doing an RMA.
@GlennBerrySQL

There is no video output during this process. It is a very low-level procedure for flashing the BIOS with no CPU, memory or GPU installed. If you followed the procedure and the BIOS flash LED blinked for five minutes, the BIOS flash probably worked. If you had a previously working system that suddenly had no video output, being on an old BIOS version was not your problem. I would be troubleshooting your monitor and GPU first, and then the motherboard. I would try moving the GPU to a different PCIe slot, try using the GPU in a different system, try using a different GPU in this system, etc.

Hey, I am currently in the same situation. May I ask: is it possible to have the unsupported 14900k in the motherboard while doing this? Also can you just lay the motherboard on the box, connect the PSU, turn PSU on, enter an usb and click the flash button? Im rly worried about messing it up.

@@GlennBerrySQLhey, great video. I do have an additional question. When I right click my usb like in your video, it says “FAT32” but when I check the format by going to disk management and then right clicking and then click on “format”, it says its “EXfat” - now im unsure which one is true, and why its showing me different, based on how I examine it.. I hope you can help me out. And also: if the flash fails, what is the right way to turn it off and try again? Should I press and hold the power button on the motherboard until the LED goes off? Thanks a lot in advance :)
