You are my hero! I came here to discover how to MIDI map the Circuit macros to Ableton's macros for Instrument/Effect Racks. As it turns out...I found out myself anyway (Preferences>MIDI>Input Remote needs switched on) but I had NO idea each of the different modes changed the CC-value...totally makes sense now. This has completely revamped the way I use the Circuit with Ableton now! Cheers!

Since Circuit has panning now, that's some 8 knobs more. In Reaper I'm in the middle of some setting up so I can map those 58 knobs (not using the filter knob) to almost any VST and even have MIDI feedback. This tip is fantastic, MUUUUCHAS GRACIAS, LOOPOP!

This is absolutely brilliant!!! Thanks for posting this!!! A quick idea to solve the midi channel problem. If you use an application between the circuit and your DAW you can re-program the channel numbers and CC numbers to use the same channel. I use Bome's MIDI Translator Pro for this. You can also use the Circuit's notes to trigger key commands as well! Great video!!!!

Dude! That was exactly what I was looking for! - and I rarely use exclamation points. You addressed the challenge I'm trying to solve, which is being able to more easily control the settings on a couple of my iOS soft synths (particularly, AudioKit's impressive Synth One) more easily. I found your video via a random Google search, and didn't realize until I started watching the video and recognized your voice that I'm already a subscriber to your channel. I love the careful and clear way you explain things. And the timeline along the left side of the screen is really helpful, too. Before I purchase the Novation Circuit, do you know if it will do precisely what I'm hoping it will - control AudioKit's Synth One on an iPhone 8?

Dirk Finger thanks, and yes, it will but they are structured differently. The nice thing is that the Mono Station knobs are labeled - so you can literally map each knob to its respective soft synth function. You even get more rhetorical knobs, but that's if you count the 32 mod matrix knobs, which require a few more clicks to get to. But yes, everything should work fine

Edit : Have it working now. Needed to toggle the orange buttons in the Setup page, even though they were already lit. I suddenly had a use for 51 twiddle-able knobs. Unfortunately, I've spent all afternoon trying to get this to work. I can monitor notes being transmitted but nothing seems to be be transmitting from the knobs - this is via the USB connection. I can see CC data being sent from another keyboard with controller knobs without a problem, but the Circuit doesn't seem to be sending anything. Have Novation disabled this in recent updates?

@paQ75

The original Novation Circuit (the one shown in this video) has only two synth tracks that can be used for sequencing external instruments via MIDI. The Circuit Tracks have 2 SYNTH+2 MIDI, and you can sequence a total of 4 devices at once. Simply turn the circuit volume down to zero and use each channel (Synth1, Synth2, Midi1, Midi2 (Channels 1,2,3,4)) to sequence four different midi tracks in Ableton (assigning on Ableton each track its corresponding MIDI/IN channel number).

I heard that the Circuit can work similarly for external synths which are digitally controlled - it was specifically mentioned for the Bass Station II. Do you think it could work for the Korg -logues as well? Could you also consider demonstrating this in a video? I'm super curious as to how it's done and I haven't seen any tutorial about that.

If you don't have a Circuit, you can essentially do the same thing with other Grooveboxes like the Elektribe. Each channel/voice on that will send CC's on Ch 1-16. Actually most hardware can output it's CC. Elektron, etc. etc. With an Electribe, you could essentially control and sequence 16 soft synths or drum machines. It's like giving the Electribe a lobotomy and using your PC or even iPad as a new "brain". As always, parameter jumping etc. can be a PITA...

For some reason when I do the MIDI learn thing for the first 8 knobs, Ableton won't assign it to the parameter I select. But the flashing indicator at the top right of the screen that shows when MIDI signals are being received lights up whenever I turn these knobs, so obviously Ableton is receiving the MIDI data; it just won't map with MIDI learn. Any ideas why?
