@@praneyapradhan208 Usually, it's best to see a dermatologist for melasma, as it requires more potent treatments to lighten, such as hydroquinone. However, sometimes AHAs (like glycolic acid) or retinol/retinoids can also help.

hi Melissa! Is it okay if i use the Cerave SA as a cleanser before the Mandelic acid?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
Ай бұрын
If your skin tolerates it, yes, because Mandelic Acid is a gentle exfoliant. However, for some individuals, it still may be too potent. If you know that your skin tolerates both products well on their own, then it can work. Just keep the frequency in mind.

Hi melissa! Been a fan for a while and great video as always! Can i ask for some guidance for my skin though? I have acne prone and combination skin, my routine is Am: celeteque moisturizing cleanser, celeteque skin defense sunscreen Pm: cosrx salycylic acid cleanser, (and then i add pimple patches to my active pimples) and then luxe organic aloe gel and then celeteque moisturizer. And then i use a powder mud spot treatment which is called oxecure. I feel like im missing something, i just turned 18 on the 25th and im still getting acne. Should i start a retinol? Should i add more things to ny routine and if so what should i add that will benefit me without over complicating my routine (i wanna stick as simple as possible since if i use too many products it might make me breakout, and i also have a capped budget when it comes to skincare:(() any help will be appreciated, thankyou in advance Melissa^^

Hey! 😊 How much acne do you experience, and where is it located? To get your acne under control, you need to determine its root cause. Is it genetic, due to excessive oil production, caused by using the wrong or overly rich skincare products, hormonal, related to hygiene, food intolerance, foods containing preservatives or antibiotics, lack of sleep, stress, etc.? While topical acne products can help to some extent, if the underlying cause is something else, you also need to address that!

@@chantellesimoyi2421 You can use an exfoliant to help fade the dark spots. Products like Azelaic Acid, Alpha Arbutin, or, if they are really stubborn, Hydroquinone (under a doctor's guidance) may help too. As for your blackheads, it's best to get them extracted. However, I also recommend investigating the root causes of your acne, such as lack of sleep, stress or mental health issues, environmental factors (air & water quality, washing detergent, etc), or your diet (such as consuming too much added sugar, processed food, fast food, or any food intolerance; like soy, milk, bread (gluten), eggs, chicken, etc).

Hey! What are your skin concerns again? Sadly, I can't see past conversations anymore to recall what we've already discussed. Regarding Vitamin C and Kojic Acid products, which ones are you considering? Choose either Lactic Acid or Glycolic Acid-do not use both, and avoid using either of them together with Retinol, Kojic Acid, and possibly Azelaic Acid (depending on your skin's tolerance). You can either use them in separate routines (at different times of the day) or on alternate days.

I have very small bumps on my skin that look like comedones. Can this get rid of them? I'm not sure between this and azelaic acid 10%. I have very sensitive skin, I also think 70% of my skin is normal to dry, and 20% is kind of normal to oily but very little oily. it gets dried out after cleansers. when I don’t use any skincare products, my skin is normal, no dry patches. I also like to feel like I have nothing on my skin when I apply products. Does the mandelic acid feel oily on the skin? Is the azelaic acid better?

Hey! :) Have you ever tried not using any skincare products at all? Not even a cleanser? If not, I recommend trying that first-it might solve your little bumps issue. If not, I still recommend avoiding skincare products and instead getting them extracted, and then I recommend investigating the root causes of your bumps, such as lack of sleep, stress or mental health issues, environmental factors (air & water quality, washing detergent, etc), or your diet (such as consuming too much added sugar, processed food, fast food, or any food intolerance; like soy, milk, bread (gluten), eggs, chicken, etc).

Hello, yes, the formulations of these cleansers are usually better, and overall, they contain fewer concerning ingredients. However, that doesn't mean you can't find any good cleansers in that range. When I look at brands like Nivea or Neutrogena, which are quite popular in our area, I notice they all contain fragrances, some drying alcohols, or other drying ingredients. In contrast, cleansers from Cetaphil, Beauty of Joseon, or The Ordinary are much better in terms of formulation. You also notice the difference when using them. I cleanse my face very often due to the videos I record, and with the cleansers I most often include, I can do that easily 4-5 times without overly drying the skin. With the other formulations, once or twice is already 'enough.' Regarding hyaluronic acid serum, The Ordinary is quite good. However, the formulation I like most is Vichy Mineral 89. You get a fair amount of product, and often, you can find it online with a 30-40% discount. I am trying to really move away from fragrances and other concerning ingredients and have decided not to recommend such products anymore. Although new research is always emerging, and there may be ingredients that have been deemed safe but could be concerning in the future. But who knows? If you go down that path, you can't recommend anything anymore, hehe.

@@realsandro yeah, the issue with dry skin is most often related to the cleanser or soap you're using. However, given the current weather, it can also be due to temperature shifts and the drying cold. So, you might need to wash less often or switch products. But I know these products are getting very expensive. I also experience this; inflation has really hit us hard here in Europe. 😞

Hi Melissa, I'm curious whether chemical sunscreen protection will immediately activate when applied to the face or do you have to wait 30 minutes before getting sun exposure?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
7 ай бұрын
Chemical sunscreens usually require some time to be absorbed into the skin to provide effective protection, and the waiting time is usually about 10 to 20 minutes. This is because it allows the sunscreen to form a protective film on the skin, ensuring that it works effectively.

@@saminberenjabadi8100 Generally, there is no need to massage your face with anything. Hello, which serum would u recommend for acne and combination skin? I used glycolic acid for a year, worked well intially but now it doesn’t work I use AM: Cerave blemish control cleanser The Ordinary Niacinamide Moisturizer PM: neutrogena hydroboost cleanser Ordinary HA serum Moisturizer Which serum do u recommend to control acne for sensitive combination acne prone skin? Salicylic acid or mandelic acid? I do plan to buy azelaic acid suspension and skin barrier serum from The Ordinary as well Thanks

Well, overall, I think a low-strength retinol in combination with benzoyl peroxide works well. The Ordinary really misses out by not offering these formulations, which are suitable for acne-prone skin. Ideally, they would formulate a gel with 0.1-0.3% retinol and a benzoyl peroxide cleanser, or maybe even a gel with a low strength of 4-5%. Since they don't offer these products, I suggest going with another brand. Good Molecules' Gentle Retinol Cream and PanOxyl's Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser are great alternatives. You could try a routine similar to this one: kzitem.info/news/bejne/26dv3WyonWqjl20 But what's more important is to also consider your diet. For me personally, it seems to be a major factor contributing to my forehead acne. Avoiding additives and processed foods makes a huge difference for me.

Hello again :) Yes, the consistency is a bit oily. However, it's not clogging pores. Generally, there are no ingredients in it that should cause clogging, but of course, it could always happen. That said, this can happen with any product as it's a matter of what you personally tolerate. Also, it's actually one product that has worked really well for me. I used about 4-5 drops, which felt good on my skin.

Hi Melissa it's been a while. I've been struggling with ice pick scars these days but sadly I can't do anything with just leave on products. I've been researching what I could do to minimize their appearance without having to go to the doctor for micro needling to get rid of them. I want to know what age micro needling is allowed. I might get it if I'm old enough. Anyway do you know any advice to minimize the appearance of these scars?
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
7 ай бұрын
Hello :) The age at which you can undergo micro-needling typically depends on local regulations and the policies of the specific clinic or practitioner you choose. However, in most cases, you should be at least 18 years old to undergo micro-needling. But topical treatments are not very effective for this, and therefore, it does not make much sense to use them.
