I watched so many videos about different brands but I trust your opinion because you are clearly experienced. Also, do you think it makes a difference if you mix the pycnogenol with a product or apply it afterwards? Thx for your effort and work!!

Hello Tina, From my experience, you can mix The Ordinary Vitamin C powder with Marine Hyaluronics or Hyaluronic Acid and a bit of their Ferulic Acid or Pycnogenol. It works just as well as the other serums, but you need to buy several products, which may be more expensive. So the best would be just to get a mixed formulation such as Geek and Gorgeous C-Glow, which contains 15% of Ascorbic Acid at a very affordable price, and keeping it in the fridge after using it which makes it last for several months! And I am skeptical about all these derivatives. For example, Ascorbyl Glucoside and Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (which is not available anymore, but I liked it a lot) may work well. Still, I haven't had the chance to test it long enough, so I don't know 😉 The trials I have done on myself and which you can find on my channel, did not show very promising results; it faded but really did not know how much my skin has done by itself.

Hey! :) Thank you so much for your lovely words. This truly means a lot!💕 I want to help as many people as I can and if I can! We need to help each other if we want to have a better world!😊 What Vitamin C product do you use? Your Vitamin C is a brightening ingredient. Vitamin A (Retinol/Granactive Retinoid or Retinoid - like Tretinoin) can help prevent and reduce signs of aging, it also helps with a more even skin tone due to the cell turnover, but it doesn't work the same way as a brightening ingredient. My husband and I enjoy Pycnogenol so, this could be a great option, and you still could use Rosehip Seed Oil if you like to. AM: Cleanser, Vitamin C, Pycnogenol and Moisturiser (if needed) and SPF PM 1: Cleanser, Retinol/Granactive Retinoid and Moisturiser (if needed). PM 2 Cleanser, Rosehip Seed Oil and Moisturiser (if needed). If you are new to Retinol, I recommend starting with the lowest % so; 0,2% if you want to use a Retinol or 2% if you want to use a Granactive Retinoid. You may be able to use a low % already every other - up to daily. However, depending on the Retinol and how your skin responds to Retinol, you may not be able to use it daily, which can lead to irritation. Therefore I mentioned a PM 1 and PM 2 to alternate between using a Retinol and Rosehip Seed Oil which is also rich in Vitamin A.

Hello, I can help you and provide you the information this way, you will learn much more!❤️ Glycolic Acid Toner = Leave on Exfoliant Niacinamide = Water-Based Serum Lactic Acid = Leave on Exfoliant Peeling Solution = Rinse of Mask (kzitem.info/news/bejne/2ImPlqSPnKtpfo4) The general rule of thumb for order of application is: 1. Water-based serums 2. Anhydrous Solutions and Oil Formulations 3. Lotions & Creams & suspensions Important: If you have more than one water-based serum, you can apply based on the priority of your concern (the product that targets the most important concern should go first). And it’s recommended applying eye-serums (such as Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG) first after cleansing. It’s recommended using no more than 3 serum formulations in a single routine for optimal skin penetration. About 2-3 drops of each serum and 1 pea-sized amount of creams should be enough for the full face and neck. Use a "patting" application method, as opposed to "rubbing." Always apply sunscreen when you are exposed to the sun!! Some products can have a foaming effect upon application depending on the other products you are using in your regimen. The foaming should not last longer than a few seconds and both should not remain sticky once absorbed into the skin. (Video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/02ZqvWuoiohihWU) "Pilling" (snakeskin, shedding) can occur due to too much product. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount of product, and any excess will be left on top of the skin so that when the next product is being applied, it rubs off. (Video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/zZV5nXyqiGpjaXY) If you wish to incorporate multiple Vitamin C's, Retinoids, and/or Direct Acids into your skincare regimen, it's suggested using them on alternate evenings and waiting until your skin has adjusted to one before introducing another. @@sapoosh I found it. And no, it is not true. But mixing them in the palm of your hand may not work well because Pygnogenol it is an Anhydrous Solution and wouldn't mix correctly, also creating a smeary texture which does not absorb well into the skin. Therefore it is always best to layer them, but you can layer them one after another. But the order is essential. So you would use: A Cleanser to wash your face use Niacinamide and/or Hyaluronic Acid as the second serum (since it is water-based, so it is lighter than your Pycnogenol) Pycnogenol (which is an Anhdryous Solution means it contains no water) No need to wait long in between. I always like to say wait 30 seconds to 1 minute before layering the following product; otherwise, it may feel sticky, but it depends on many factors such as your skin type, the amount you use and how you apply the serums etc.

Hello! Your content is amazing, so clear and helpful - I was just wondering whether you’d be able to help me with my skin routine please? Sorry this may be long! I’d say my skin is heavily combination, I get eczema on my forehead along with dry patches on my cheeks. My skin can also get oily on the forehead and It’s covered in clogged pores that I’ve had for years, I’m pretty acne prone and get spots frequently (probably over touching my face). I’m 21 so not many fine lines but I’d like to prevent them - my skin is also quite dehydrated so looks very papery and dull. Fore the last month my routine has been Am Cetaphile gentle cleanser Niacinamde 10% + zinc 1% Argireline solution 10% 100% plant derived Squalane Neutrogena hydro boost sleeping crème Pm (alternating) Cetaphile gentle cleanser Either Niacinamde 10% + zinc 1% OR mandelic acid 10% + HA 100% plant derived Squalane Neutrogena hydro boost sleeping crème As of now, I can tell my skin barrier is a lot better, and some of the clogged pores are going down - skin is definitely looking more even and more plump/less dry. I am looking to have an alternating AM and PM routine every other day and would like to know how they sound? I will of course be intergrating each product slowly but wanted to know whether I’d be using too many or if they’re doing the same thing. Am 1 Cetaphile gentle cleanser Caffeine solution 5% + ECGC Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5 Niacinamde 10% + zinc 1% Argireline solution 10% 100% organic pressed rose hip seed oil Neutrogena hydro boost sleeping crème La Roche posay hydrating crème SPF50 PM 1 Cetaphile gentle cleanser mandelic acid 10% + HA Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5 Niacinamde 10% + zinc 1% B oil Neutrogena hydro boost sleeping crème AM 2 Cetaphile gentle cleanser Caffeine solution 5% + ECGC Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5 Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate solution 20% in vitamin F Pycnogenol 5% 100% plant derived squalane Neutrogena hydro boost sleeping crème La Roche posay hydrating crème SPF50 PM 2 Cetaphile gentle cleanser Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5 Retinol 0.2% in squalane B oil Neutrogena hydro boost sleeping crème I was planning on moving the oils around depending on what my skin needs but I’m not sure if the caffeine solution and order of the products are correct, or whether I’m just over complicating it way too much! Should I look for products that combine some of these to simplify? Thanks!
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

I wouldn't add too many products...and skip Hyaluronic Acid. Using Pycnogenol and Tetraisopalmitate in the same routine can feel too oily/heavy. I wouldn't use them in the same routine. Either use one of them or use one in the AM and the other in the PM. You probably don't need any additional oils when using them as they feel like an oil. Same when using The Ordinary Retinol in Squalane as it is already in Squalane. Why do you want to use the Caffeine Solution? Do you have a dry eye area? If so, I wouldn't recommend it because it can make the skin around the eye drier. So, looking into a cream would be another option. Let me know how you want it, and I will help you with the order.

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you so much! Appreciate the help. I’ll be taking the Hyaluronic acid out as the pycnogenol should do the trick, along with the B oil as it will probably clog pores. I suffer from some dark under eye circles - not particularly dry or puffy though so I’m hoping it will reduce the darkness as I don’t like wearing makeup anymore. I am currently stuck between Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% and Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% as id originally thought the glucoside may be irritating/drying on my eczema, but now I’m thinking the tetraisopalmitate might be too pore clogging - do you have a preference or any advice for the best form of vitamin C? I was considering the LAA powder but wasn’t sure what to mix with that could reduce irritation. My other question is whether you would recommend the Granactive Retinoid Serum 2% in squalane or the Retinol Serum 0.2% in Squalane. I’d heard that the retinol can be drying/irritating but wasn’t too worried as I’d start slow and follow with the pycnogenol. Now I am considering the retinoid as it can be more hydrating but am aware there is less research behind it - do you have a preference here? Thanks so much! I doubt I will re buy argireline once I move to retinol, but routine now looks like this: Am 1 - Cetaphil gentle cleanser - Caffeine solution 5% + ECGC - Niacinamde 10% + zinc 1% - Argireline solution 10% - 100% plant derived squalane - Neutrogena hydro boost sleeping crème - La Roche posay hydrating crème SPF50 PM 1 - Cetaphil gentle cleanser - mandelic acid 10% + HA - Niacinamde 10% + zinc 1% - Pycnogenol (or squalane?) - Neutrogena hydro boost sleeping crème AM 2 - Cetaphil gentle cleanser - Caffeine solution 5% + ECGC - Argireline solution 10% - Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate solution 20% in vitamin F - 100% plant derived squalane (if I chose the glucoside instead) - Neutrogena hydro boost sleeping crème - La Roche posay hydrating crème SPF50 PM 2 - Cetaphil gentle cleanser - Niacinamde 10% + zinc 1% - Retinol 0.2% in squalane - Pycogneol - Neutrogena hydro boost sleeping crème Feel free to suggest any changes if you have any better options, thanks x

Hey :) Haha 🙂 , To be honest, no product can help you with ice pick scars. Therefore you need to visit a dermatologist. However, for the "Dark Spots", you can lighten them with Vitamin C and use Retinol to speed up the process. I recommend Paula's Choice products since The Ordinary products are all out of stock or the once that are great for your concerns. I recommend using: Paula's Choice Clinical 0,3% Retinol + 2% Bakuchiol Treatment Paula's Choice Vitamin C 15 Booster Routines can look like this: AM: Cleanser (Gentle! Example Cetaphil or Paula's Choice) EUK 134 (3-5drops) Sunscreen PM 1(rest of the week): Cleanser (Gentle! Example Cetaphil or Paula's Choice) Vitamin C 15 Super Booster (3-5drops) Pycnogenol (max 2-3drops!) PM2 (2-3 times a week): Cleanser Paula's Choice Clinical 0,3% Retinol + 2% Bakuchiol Treatment Natural Moisturizing factors With this combination, you will see results after 8-12 weeks. But based on my experience there is no chance to get rid of the ice pick scars except for mechanical treatment. So I recommend asking a professional in your area! ;)

Hello 😃 No, the only thing you can try is using less of the essence and/or Pycnogenol or waiting a bit in between. Apply snail mucin and give it 30 seconds to 1 minute to absorb. Apply pycnogenol and give it 30 seconds to 1 minute to absorb. Apply granactive retinoid. However, based on my experience and the comments I often receive, the combination of pycnogenol and retinol can sometimes lead to irritation or sensitivities. hello melissa! i'm 25 with sensitive, mixed skin and some fine lines, and I use ascorbyl glucoside solution 12% and pycnogenol in the morning, and hyaluronic acid and retinol 0.2% at night. what would you change? what would you add? i'd like to try niacinamide+zinc, where would you put it and in what order?

Hello 😃 There are many options, but I would only change something if it isn't working for you. But to see that, you need to use it consistently for a few months. You can add Niacinamide, and I would probably use it before retinol in the evening. The Ordinary For Beginners: kzitem.info/news/bejne/xZ-XsoqhmHekfGk

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you so much, melissa. Well, this is the first year i've done something for my skin, i have really bad eczema and my skin has always been overreactive to anything i put on it, so i never put anything on it (no creams, no sunscreen, no makeup. just water and soap.), but since getting treatment (i still have to take antihistaminse for it everyday), my skin has been able to tolerate stuff, so i started getting into skincare and watching your videos! I used topical steroids earlier this year, and they're good for treating eczema, but they'll make your skin thinner. Now i'm off them and i'm trying to take really good care of my skin! Still no make-up (i don't know if i'll ever get there, or if i'll ever even want to get there|), only skincare! I've been consistently using this routine for maybe 5 weeks? and my skin has literally never looked this good, so i want to keep at it! I still have a few pimples on my forehead and on the sides of my face, which is why i thought i could add niacinamide. I'll try and report back! Do you have any suggestions for a toner? I saw the glycolic acid one from the ordinary but i don't think it would be wise to add an acid? your channel is amazing, thank you for what you do. i hope you get more traffic! I'll be around

@@aureaproportio Okay, that's quite a story. 😞 If your skin is that sensitive, it may not be a good idea to add such a strong acid. Glycolic Acid is the strongest AHA that they offer. And generally, for sensitive skin types, a PHA(which The Ordinary does not provide) is recommended or maybe Mandelic Acid. From my experience, pimples are very hard to target and keep under control, if mainly caused by hormones/stress, etc. So I am dealing with this a lot. Niacinamide helps to calm down the redness, and it may work over the long haul, and if you only have a few, it's worth a try. But in general, if your skin is that sensitive, I wouldn't add too much at a time and always wait a few weeks before adding new products to it not to overwhelm it. That's something I always do when trying new products; otherwise, it can quickly lead to stinging burning or redness, and you have to start all over again. If you want to use a hydrating toner, go with Paula's Choice. (just choose the one suitable for your skintype) For exfoliating acid toner, The Inkey List PHA Toner or Geek and Gorgeous PHA toner.

Does anyone else suffer from sweating off products shortly after they are applied on the face? 😭 It could be because I live in a hot & humid tropical area. It happens with my face moisturisers but especially with sunscreens which is why I've stopped using them (terrible considering the sun lives above my head 😂😂). Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Hey! :) What's your current AM and PM routine? Also, what's your skin type? You probably don't need to use a moisturiser at all (or just in the PM), and immediately move on to SPF. What SPF did you use?

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Thanks for replying. My current routine is just cleansing & moisturising, although I purchased the pycnogenol recently & I watched this video to learn how to use it. The spf is also a moisturiser so when I used it in the past, I did not apply anything before it. It's the bondi sands sunscreen face lotion with spf 50. I used Neutrogena hydro boost spf 30 in the past & still sweated that off too.

@@hummingbird4335 So, cleanse your face, use about 2-3 drops of Pycnogenol and then follow with your SPF :) Do you still experience the 'sweating' with your current SPF?

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I haven't used spf in a long time because of the sweating. But you said in the video that pycnogenol can supplement sunscreen in protection against sun damage. That's why I'm considering starting spf again but worried about the sweating that starts within one minute of applying it 😭

@@hummingbird4335 Yes, that's true. However, what if you look into a mineral SPF that usually gives a bit more of a drying feeling. Or look into a gel or serum-like SPF.

I absolutely love how you have been replying to every comment omg so so so sweet! Can you please please please suggest what order I can mix ordinary products in for AM and PM routine for active acne, clogged pores and textured skin? I have wrinkles under eyes and I'm 22. I'm currently using glycolic acid at night and niacinamide during the day. My skin type is oily and combination. Thank you in advance! You rock 🤘

For that, I recommend not using Glycolic Acid but Salicylic Acid instead, as Glycolic Acid cannot unclog pores. I suggest watching the following video: The Ordinary Skincare Routine for Oily Acne Prone Skin: kzitem.info/news/bejne/o6WCs56mpJV1hqw

Hey Melissa ! I wanted to know if pycnogenol can be used under eyes for fine lines ??

Wouldn't bring it too close to the lower lash line as it has a high % and may irritate the eyes. But technically you can use it.

Theoretically, yes, and you can layer in any order. Still, from my experience, using multiple strong antioxidants in the same routine can lead to sensitivity over time; therefore, I wouldn't recommend it.

I bought niacinamide, pycnogenol, organic cold-pressed borage seed oil, euk 134 and the cleaning face wash. I don’t know which product is water based because two of them say water-free. Furthermore, none of these products have the ingredients on them. If it says pycnogenol 5%, what is the 95% of the product of? Does anyone know.

@@IIKkinjalPragyaanII What cleanser do you use? I do not use Buffet anymore. But from what I can tell is that the cleanser can make a huge difference. Also if the face isn't washed correctly, and sometimes it's just the product or hormones etc. If you are new to the products, it may cause a reaction, and you need to adjust to it. This may take a few weeks based on my experience. But as you already said I still have problems with Buffet so sometimes it just does not work. To figure out the reason you need to see a dermatologist or just use different products ;)
