Actually you don't have to run water for back pressure at all...simply turn on the water like normal with the valve closed and make sure the entire hose and tube are full of water. Invert tube in tank, get rid of any air bubbles in tube then go to the sink and open the valve. The back pressure will kick in on its own, no need to run water (not practical if you have a long extension it will take forever and waste loads of water).

okay, I finally, (after 2 years of hauling buckets of water) bought a Python water changer kit! Wow I am so happy I finally did it! It works great! My one hour water changes now take about 10 minutes! I was a little nervous to add the water back into the tank because I normally put the water conditioner into the bucket and then pour into the aquarium. So I put some of the conditioner in first as well as half way through the fill and then a little more near the end. I have a 120 gallon tank and this is going to save me a lot of time. Seems like a great idea APART from that you have to have water running the whole time while emptying the tank, that's a LOT of wasted water... I've done a similar thing where I've connected a siphon which had a pump to a hose, and that hose I can just connect to the water faucet to refill the tank again. It's not pretty but it works.

I'm wanting to buy one of these, and for years I almost did,but I always wondered about the whole water conditioner issue, how it would be added to the tank,if there was a reservoir on the python to add it, I really had no idea how it worked. As many people that rave about it, I assume that the method they show here, adding conditioner as it fills, that this is safe, but still I worry. I was always told that you had to add water conditioner before you add any fresh water to the aquarium, any time you fill a bucket you had to add conditioner before the bucket of water is added to the aquarium, and this had to be repeated with every bucket of water. If I knew we could do it this way I would have just added the appropriate amount to the aquarium as soon as I drained enough water so I wouldnt have to beat myself up whether I forgot to add conditioner to a bucket of water when it usually takes about 15 buckets of water to fill mine back up. It's so easy to forget one time and I've definitely worried myself sick a few times trying to remember if I forgot one time,so I'd panic and dump several capfuls just in case.

You do not have to leave the water running when siphoning unless the sink is too high. You only need to do it until the water starts suctioning. I always fill using my kitchen sink, but it's too high to continue the pressure for suctioning, so I just drain into the toilet. My python is a set of 2 50 footers attached together, so it makes it super easy. edit: Also be very careful when filling. You cannot just casually turn on the sink to fill it with the valve closed at the siphon end. The pressure will straight up force the python off the sink or break your piping. (personal experience, I've had to replace the attachments more than once).

Using a barrel or Brute container, you would then need to attach the python to a pump to allow you to fill from this container to the aquarium. You need to ensure that the water is treated and mixed before adding to your aquarium, obviously.

This video almost has me convinced to switch, especially because I'm doing EI-method dry ferts on my 60g, and that specifies a weekly 50% water change. The Python method is less precise.

@marissadefeo4136
6 жыл бұрын
With a 10g tank I wouldn't bother purchasing a Python. You will need to do a 30-50% water change once a week. Removing 3-5 gallons or less is so easy it would be more work to set up the python and all that you would have the water change done before you even had the python ready. Don't get me wrong, love the python - I have 5 tanks (55/30/20/10/5) and I don't mind doing changes on the 10 it's so fast and easy. A regular gravel vac would suffice. This is meant more for a larger tank say 55g+. But don't let my opinion stop you from getting one! As for the Kuhli loach, they can get up to 4" so a 10 gallon some may say would be too small but you can give it a try - just do your research beforehand.. Good luck!

No you don't! I turn it on once quickly to get the suction, then turn it off. It will drain faster if you keep your tap running though, so if you need suction to do heavy-duty substrate cleaning I'd recommend it. With sand you probably wouldn't need a strong suction, but I use river rocks as my main substrate in my tank so I don't need to keep my tap running.

It isn't always apparent, and usually is disguised to look seamless, but It's likely that the end of your tap, right where the water comes out, can be threaded on and off, much like the one in our video (kzitem.info/news/bejne/t2mazptrsp50oYYm). If you twist, you'll probably see that it starts to detach, revealing a threaded pattern where the Python can screw on!

Use a bucket to mix your additives with water. Pour the bucket into the tank as the hose fills the tank and you'll get a very good mix. Just keep monitoring the Water Temp coming out of the hose. Most Importantly keep the end of the hose ABOVE the Water Surface. This allows gas dissipation before the new water enters the "old water" still in the tank.

Yes, it will work, but you will need to leave the water on while draining in order to keep the siphon negative pressure going. That wastes clean, fresh water, so it will depend on whether or not you want to do that, or if you can afford it. It wouldn't be so bad for a small aquarium, but I have two 60 gallon tanks and several small ones, so that would be a lot of wasted water.

Does the faucet have to run the entire time you are draining or just long enough to establish the siphon?

If your faucet is located below the water line, then you can start the siphon and then turn off your water and gravity will do the rest.

Having something called an “Eco-cloth” to “save paper towels” in the middle of an advert for a product that literally requires you to leave a tap running - wasting thousands of liters of water over the products lifetime - is the single most hypocritical thing I have ever seen. Theres a water crisis, we shouldn’t be cool with this!😂 Just start a siphon and put the end of that big ass tube outside. Water your plants with it or something. No need to have it constantly attached to a running tap🤦🏻♂️

I get my step ladder and put it next to my tank, then I put my container of water on the top of the step ladder so that its at a higher level than my tank and simply sython the water in using gravity, simple no cost method .

+Mxx2theMAX - You can't automatically refill the saltwater tank, but you definitely CAN drain it using the Python No Spill Clean & Fill System!

Tap Water then you add Tap Water Conditioner, Stress Coat(Zyme). If you have live plants you can also add CO2 Booster Etcs.

I find the need to keep the faucet running during draining an issue. I don't want to waste water to drain water. Maybe its due to lenght of the hose or it going down and then back up to the sink or i'm just using it wrong.
