At almost 5 months, I still curse the shifter. My biggest problem now is the quality of construction. I have had the XT5 in 7 times to repair noises and turn signal failures. It is a very nice riding car but I don't trust it anymore. As for the start/stop: the car shakes every time. It's not a smooth car like Caddy's used to be.
@dadude1425

I don't own one, but having driven many start/stop cars I can attest to it's shakiness. It can also be dangerous if you are a risky driver trying to shoot a gap from a stop with the engine off because it will take a couple of extra seconds to start moving

That's what I wanted to know. I meant an owner who said his XT5 would not accelerate when the light turns green. The rpms would rev, but no go. He has to put it in neutral to move on. He doesn't like the shifter either. He has been to the dealer many times and contacted GM and still no resolution.

I've driven the XT5 and that was a big issue for me with the gear shifter... I like shifting quickly in certain situations like making U-turns and three-point turns quickly... This new shifter slows me down when traffic is approaching fast... this shifter throws me off trying to shift from (R) to (D) on tight roads. should have kept it conventional... Also I hate that start/stop system... There's no button to turn it off

Recently got this vehicle. Found out you can kill the engine with it in drive and when you start it again it will be in park. Is this a good idea or will it hurt the transmission to do this?
@dadude1425

Since the shifting is completely electronic and not physically connected, this is perfectly harmless. Cadillac implemented this as a safety feature in case the driver forgets to put the car in park before turning the car off

I don't work at the GM dealership anymore so it's hard to say for sure, but the owners manual will likely give you a list of things that can be keeping the car from coming out of park. You can check those and if none of those resolve the issue it will likely need to be taken to a dealership or shop

How to put Into neutral without power any idea??
@dadude1425
2 жыл бұрын
If there is enough power in the battery to let the electronics inside turn on but not enough to crank the engine, you can hold the engine start button with your foot off the brake until the light on the button turns on, and then you should be able to press the brake pedal and shift into neutral. If you don't have any power at all you'll need to jump start the car or charge the battery until you can shift or start the car

Anyway to deactivate the auto engine start stop feature?
@dadude1425
5 жыл бұрын
There's no setting specifically for it, but there are a couple of work arounds. 1. Drive with manual mode instead of drive, and just select the highest gear you can. It should still drive normally but the auto stop only functions in drive, not in manual. This is probably the easiest way. 2. If the car has a "Sport" mode (I don't remember if the XT5 has one or not) that will disable it as well, but will also tweak throttle calibration and shift scheduling which can affect your gas mileage. 3. When you come to a stop and the engine turns off, shift into any gear, like into manual mode, and back to drive. That shift will turn the engine back on and it won't turn off again until you stop again

The Park Button I really don't like as it is Too Easy to press when the Car is still moving and it will engage the Parking Sprag, with noisy results. The Paddle Shifters are horrible, as you can tap them in Drive and they will shift, but after a bit the tranny is supposed to return to full auto.. well it doesn't quite do that, The dash still reads a Gear #, and the only way to get it back to D is move the Fracking Lever to M then back to D. Moving the lever to M as you stop, is one way to keep that Damn Auto Stop from acting, just don't forget to move it again to M as you take you foot off the Brake to go

can the start stop function be disabled on the xt5
@dadude1425
6 жыл бұрын
Parker0806 Unfortunately no. The best way to force the engine to keep running is to put the car in neutral as you come to a stop, then put it back in drive after you come to a full and complete stop. This works because the engine will only auto stop when the transmission is in drive and once stopped it won't turn the engine off if you change gears. It can be hazardous if you need to accelerate out of the way of danger, so use this technique at your own risk

My apologies. I tried to at least cover the most common use cases for the shifter so I know I missed some of the more rare uses that may come up. Not sure if you're needing to know or just mentioning to bring up the point, but in case you or maybe someone coming along needs to know, here's how you do that: -With the key in the vehicle, press and hold the start button WITHOUT stepping on the brake until the dash lights up. -ONLY THEN press the brake and the shift release button on the side of the shifter and push up into neutral. -Be mindful of the vehicles ability to roll and the lack of brake response you'll have since the engine is off. It is probably best to apply the parking brake until you're in neutral and fully ready to move the car

@ab348

I think it is unsafe because it is so unconventional and non-intuitive from how most shifters behave. Pushing it forward would leave new drivers thinking it is in Park when in reality it is in neutral. I got it into manual mode somehow and had no idea how to get it out until I stopped and read the owners manual.
