Soil is a three-phase system, consisting of solid particles, water and air. The ratio between these phases will determine the properties of soil. This tutorial shows how to solve problems related to soil constituents. First problem deals with soil constituents and how to obtain soil properties from the relevant definitions of soil phases. Second problem uses different formulas to quickly estimate soil properties. The third problem deals with relative density of soil and how to use it to estimate the liquefaction potential of coarse-grained soils.
