Thanks Mitch, awesome videos as always. Quick question regarding the pies, if you auto invest into the current shares on a monthly basis that are already in your pie but their share price has shot up, surely you don't want to automatically invest month on month? Instead, one is better off keeping an eye on the share price and investing manually when the share price is lower?
@MitchShoesmith
Жыл бұрын
Hey, great question. It largely depends on your strategy on whether the autoinvest is beneficial or not. If you're a long term set it and forget it type of investor that just wants to cost average monthly then it makes sense to use the feature. However, if you want to time the market a little more, or benefit from falling share prices then you could consider manually investing instead rather than using the autoinvest. The pies feature does allow you to autoinvest or do manual investments, so whatever works best for you really :)

Great video Mitch, only just found your channel, new to investing in shares, sure I’ll be watching all your videos now! Quick question, if I use a pie to build my portfolio and auto invest each month (to make it easy) how would I go about pulling my funds out of a certain company if I changed my mind on them? Say, for example, I decide I no longer want shares in Apple, do I just pull the Apple percentage within the pie down to zero? Would the money invested in apple, and any earnings, just go back into my pot? Thanks in advance Mitch!
@MitchShoesmith
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah so if you no longer want to invest in a stock that sits within your pie, you take the % allocation down to zero, and then you can just sell the shares you have and it’ll just go back as free funds for you to either invest in another stock or withdraw into your bank account ☺️

What I would be interested to find out is how all the FX conversion impact the value of my portfolio when I make purchases and sales prior to purchasing or selling them! Perhaps one should also load up the currency market say £/$ as monitoring the chart of the stock you're planning to either buy or sell! Any other suggestions?
@MitchShoesmith
Жыл бұрын
Hey, it’s a great point. I made a video on the impact of FX conversion but it was a long time ago. If you really want to go deep into investing then you might want to considering addressing your FX risk by investing in different stocks from different geographical locations with different domestic currencies as an example. Right now I’ve benefitted from favourable FX impact with the GBP devaluing against the USD, but it swings in rounds rounds in the short term.

Watch out the pitfalls! Investing in foreign markets can be challenging due to foreign currency exchange (FX) rate. For example, even though I achieved a 3% total growth on my U.S. stocks, the current FX rates ultimately reduced my gains, resulting in a 2% loss. Now, to avoid locking in that loss, I need to wait for the dollar to strengthen against the pound. As a UK resident, this experience highlights the importance of focusing on investment opportunities that minimize currency risk, such as stocks or ETFs listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) or those traded in euros.

Жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. What you're referring to is your unrealised profit and loss on your position. This is the difference between your cost basis and the current market value. Apps like trading 212 work this out for you but essentially the total value of your position is the current share price multiplied by the number of shares you own. And your cost basis is the average price paid per share multiplied by the number of shares you own. Hope that helps.
