My dad is 86 years old and lives alone. He has recently purchased a PC to help receive important VA benefit information. He is not proficient with a computer. Recently he struggled attempting to open email documents with attachments. This greatly aided me to help him by taking control over his PC allowing him to watch me as I teach him. Blessing to you my friend!!

I just got done helping my dad (75) fill out an online loan application using Mac's share my screen utility. The way it works there is through imessage you just click share my screen (with the person you are chatting with on your mac) and it automatically generates a dialogue on the other persons mac saying so-and-so wants to share his screen. Pretty easy and also built into every mac. This is just as easy though. MS has a few utilities for this but this Quick Assist seems to be the easiest, taking into light that the person you are trying to help probably would not be savvy enough to find their IP address and MS account credentials etc to do the MS Remote Assistance method. Glad MS made a quick and easy to way share screens.

I'm not sure why not many people know about this tool. You would think that it would be more common as it's easy to use, it's free, and comes with Windows 10.

Teamviewer is much better. Quick Assist is only good if both people have win10. Can't use if one has win7, xp, or others. With mac, you can't connect. I've been using teamviewer for years.

Ok I am having a problem finding a way to use remote assistance and not RDP to connect to another PC in our corporate environment without the user on the other end needing to accept the request. And WITHOUT installing any other software. We have a ridiculously strict and lengthly approval process for bringing new software into the environment so we need to use the tools available such as Remote Assistance. I am open to any ideas

What effect does Pause do for either side? Is there a way for Friend to access email or bank website and not allow Helper to see?
@EasyPcRepairs
2 жыл бұрын
There is no way for a helper to do anything on your computer without you seeing what they're doing. Pause will only pause the session between the two of you. If you wanted to go off and grab a drink whilst using 'Quick Assist', you can pause the session so that the helper cannot do anything whilst you're gone.
@georgeseese
2 жыл бұрын
@@EasyPcRepairs Thanks. To confirm that, the Helper cannot pause "viewing" the Friend's screen. If the Friend accesses a confidential website, there's no way to hide that (confidential data) from the Helper, regardless of what the Helper claims.
@EasyPcRepairs
2 жыл бұрын
That's correct. If the friend uses the pause button, they then cannot continue controlling your computer (until they unpause it). You can see what they are doing at all times. Nothing can be hidden from you. If you see them doing something that you don't like, you can pause or end the session yourself at any time.
@georgeseese

@@EasyPcRepairs Your last reply is confusing because pronouns are used. Helper, Friend, and QA must be used. My original question has not been answered. Why does Helper pause? What is the effect of Helper pause? Why does Friend pause? What is the effect of Friend pause? Friend wants help from Helper but has two concerns. (1) Helper has control of the computer. (2) Helper can see the screen. That's OK in most cases but If Helper asks Friend to log into an email or a bank account, Friend does not want Helper to see that, right? If Friend does pause, does that stop Helper from seeing the screen? Does QA tell Friend that, and does Friend trust QA? Or does Friend need to stop the session, login to check something, then contact Helper to report the results? This delay may irritate Helper. I'm asking this because a Microsoft Helper asked me to log into email and bank accounts to look for invalid entries due to a network hack notice. I did not agree to that request. Should QA provide a warning to Friend, even tho Helper is probably honest?

What good is quick assist if my clients use win 7, xp or even a Mac. Useless. With TeamViewer, it doesn't matter what OS the client has. I use TeamViewer to tutor, troubleshoot computer problems, etc. The only time I had problems with TeamViewer was when I spent too much time on it to help my students with chem, and the stupid TeamViewer wanted me to pay because I was using win 10 pro, rather than win 10 home.

Can hackers steal data using Quick Assist?
@EasyPcRepairs
3 жыл бұрын
A hacker would have to have your permission to be able to connect to your computer, so they cannot simply connect to you. Once they have connected to your computer (if you gave them permission), they cannot take your files (but they can read them). Also Quick Assist uses encription. So if you and a friend connect to each other, noone else can see or take your data. In other words, it's very safe to use.

I've asked microsoft for many times to create a program similar to teamviewer from win10 feedback, but the company never did anything. Maybe quick assist is the only one that will ever come close to it. With Teamviewer, I can chat, VoiceIP, view multiple screens, file transfer, and much more. With all of programmers that microsoft has, I can't believe the company cannot make a program as good and useful as teamviewer. Microsoft is slow and useless.

Quick Assist is useless for people w/o win10. What good is that? Can't help people with stupid mac computers. Use teamviewer. I use teamviewer to tutor people, fix computers, etc.
