This is a lovely exercise. The introduction demonstrates real world application which makes it feel meaningful. On top of that you're parsing strings and numbers which will not be the last time and the exercise doesn't enforce a single correct approach. Because of this relative freedom you're bound to find community solutions you hadn't considered yourself.

Yeah - it's one of those that seems simple, but has so many different ways of looking at it! Thanks for commenting - really appreciate the support!

Along with reading books and generally practicing problems, these videos have greatly reduced my anxiety around interview style questions. These videos aren't a magic solution of course, but they give me a great insight on how to think about problems I have never seen before. I really appreciate the Exercism team talking out the problem before even getting into the code. Great work y'all 👍🏿

That's awesome to hear! I think we should do a Ruby one as the first thing each week as it tends to be so descriptive! :D Thanks so much for taking the time to comment again. It means a lot :)

Sorry, I was the one who wrote the SQLite solution 😂 It only checks for not equal to zero, because that's the only single-digit string that would be valid otherwise. The rest of the checks will already treat single digit numbers as invalid, because 1 % 10 != 0, and so on for the rest except for zero. Duplicating the checks was indeed not necessary, idk why I did that.
