Couple points. First the microwave requires a 6 inch diameter vent and secondly by modifiing the starter boot the way you did where it meets the top of the microwave, the dampner won't be able to open.

I've been holding off on this project for so long. Finally got what I think are all the parts (also doing 6"), but I'm not sure my boot is right. It's got kinda a strange lip on it where the box protrudes about 1/2" down and then there is a flange. Is this the right one?

6 inch is insane. It might be code but there's absolutely no reason for it.

@@doggy255 Not code, it's the design of the fan. If the exhaust is restricted it will backflow.

Flexible pipe is against international code. Should be a minimum of 6” snap lock with a foil taped seam

New Subscriber AWESOME channel I'm a relatively new homeowner & want to learn to do many projects around my townhome. My 1984 vent hood doesn't vent to the outside 🙈 I'm going to vent it to the side of the house it's a 2 story don't want to try & go all the way to the roof for venting. The only issue I see is that I have full 1984 brickwall on that side of the house 😖 to drill through

Did the flapper come with the microwave?

I believe the duct pipe used in this video is meant for dryers. Is it safe to use for over the range ducting? It might not be if it allows oil and grease to build up inside it, could potentially cause a fire. You would be safer using 6 or 7 inch steel pipes specifically made for such use.

Not safe per a home inspection report on a property I have listed... for the exact reasons you stated above.

Should a little air still come from the vent inside if it's vented out?

Can I use my leftover dryer vent foil tape to tape microwave ducts? Or should I buy all purpose foil tape?

flex duct is a bad practice it would never be able to get clean so in time grease builds up and it will become a fire hazard

The most logical solution is to run an expandable pipe from the microwave through the cabinet into the ceiling and out through the roof with a roof hood cover. Yes, it requires cutting through the roof.

No no no! No screws! It collects grease and could cause a fire down the line! That being said, so will that type of pipe. But definitely no screws. Just metal/ aluminum tape on all joints

What other tools or methods did you use to get the RB connector connected to the microwave vent? And what type of microwave is that? Looking at doing this exact project on my kitchen!

Did you purchase the flapper or was it part of your microwave purchase?
