Very good indeed, and very frank way of presenting especially with the earthworms.One thing that may need to be added to this presentation is what if things go wrong too much of waste, gets added to create anoxic conditions and anaerobic organisms kick start the break down process. Capacity planning should be part of this presentation else it may happen so that folks may think it is not easy as it sounds due to lack of technical knowledge. Motivation may get lost.

@pikachu5647

@@lenac3587 you would be surprised to know how many people touch cow dung dialy in our country, they use it from manure to fuel for cooking. Daily morning farmers collect all the cow dung in containers and either make "cow dung cakes" (used as fuel for cooking) or dump it in a composting location to prepare organic manure. But i wont suggest to any westener do the same, because you might not have the antibodies to immune yourself from that, also the animals might be drugged for industrial reasons, remember these cows whose dung they touch are like their pets which they feed with fresh crops from their fields negating any harmful bacteria in their waste. Still, i myself don't touch cow dung as i am not used to it, but i just want to point out that its very normal here.

Best advice is, (which is included in this video) always bury all the food. Do not listen to other videos where they put food on the top of the soil, all this does is cause you to get flies/gnats. Don't worry that the food gets dirty when you bury it, they eat sand and dirt to help grind up their food.

Since i'm a stranger to this process i have a couple of questions. If i'm understanding this right both the compartments in the green bin have ready to use matter. a)This matter is the soil for new plants,herbs etc to grow correct ?i.e i need not buy mud/soil but use this(matter) directly into a pot, put seeds and watch it grow correct? b) how many days does it take for a bin that size to give that much soil/matter ? c) how do you separate the worms(without harming them) from the new soil/matter to put back into the newly emptied out green bin ?

Unfortunately there are no online sellers in India and the companies selling worms don't do in retail quantities. The best place to find worms in less than a kilo quantity is from your local horticulture department and if they don't have it you will definitely find it in local agricultural university. Usually this will have eisenia fetida (Red worms) or eudrilus eugeniae (African Nightcrawlers). Both are equally good.

Hello Sri! You don't have to keep this bin out in the sun at all. Moisture level depends on what you throw in and how much water sprinkling you do.

1. worms like darkness so yes, keep them covered and in the dark 2. just keep soil moist by adding water regulary without flooding it, check on soil moisture level by feeling it with your hands; soil will keep moist longer if kept away from sunlight and 3. yes, sprinkle water on it to maintain moisture. Hope this helps

+Muhammad Ali Why should she use gloves? Because she's handling the plastic tubs? The stuff IN the tubs is perfectly safe. We're finding the micro-organisms people pick up from such things probably do a lot more good than harm. The sterile environments are doing more damage. I'm sure she washes her hands. No, I would not put meat or fish in such a bin. I think you can put meat in a bokashi bin, but I'm just learning about that.

As it is little bit transparent, I am covering it with 2 other terra cota pot. I have taken few earth worms from my garden and I have kept it in them. I see they appear different from each other. So, I suspect atleast any one of them might be the compost worm. I have read many articles that few people in Mogappair is working on terrace garden and hope they should be using this method. Anyhow, I don't have their contact details or address. So, guide me if possible to get the compost worm.
