Learning how to waterproof a shower is one of the most important things you can do during a bathroom renovation.
Wedi is a great waterproofing method because it's been around for over 30 years, is easy to use, and comes with a 10 year warranty.
The first step should be checking the stud walls in the shower. They should be plumb and even with each other.
If a shower niche will be installed it's best to plan the tile layout and location of the niche before adding the wedi waterproofing panels.
Apply a bead of wedi joint sealant to the tub lip then set the first wedi building panel in place. The first screw and washer should be 6 inches above the tub or shower pan. Then a screw and washer should be added every 8 to 12 inches.
Add wedi joint sealant where wedi panels meet each other. Once all the wedi building panels are installed apply wedi joint sealant to the seams, corners, and shower transition. Then smooth the sealant with a 3 inch putty knife or wedi corner trowel. This will ensure the shower is 100% waterproof.
