Performing a wheelie on a bicycle involves a combination of balance, strength, and control. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you learn how to wheelie on a bicycle: ### 1. **Preparation** - **Bike:** A mountain bike or BMX bike is ideal due to their sturdiness and geometry. - **Location:** Find a flat, open area with a smooth surface, such as an empty parking lot or a quiet street. - **Gear:** Wear a helmet and other protective gear like gloves and knee pads for safety. ### 2. **Basic Technique** 1. **Starting Position:** - Sit on the saddle with your pedals at a horizontal position (3 and 9 o'clock). - Maintain a firm grip on the handlebars. 2. **Initial Movement:** - Start at a moderate speed. - Lean your upper body slightly forward. 3. **Lifting the Front Wheel:** - Shift your weight backward by leaning back. - Simultaneously, pull up on the handlebars and pedal hard with your dominant foot. 4. **Balancing:** - Keep your arms straight but relaxed. - Continue pedaling smoothly to maintain momentum and balance. - Use your body weight to control the angle of the front wheel. Lean back more to lift the wheel higher and lean forward slightly to lower it. 5. **Using the Rear Brake:** - Gently tap the rear brake if you feel like you’re tipping too far backward. This will bring the front wheel down. ### 3. **Tips for Success** - **Smooth Movements:** Avoid jerky motions. Smoothly shift your weight and apply power. - **Look Ahead:** Keep your eyes forward, not on the front wheel, to help maintain balance. - **Consistent Pedaling:** Keep pedaling to maintain your momentum and balance. - **Body Position:** Your body position is crucial for balance. Experiment with leaning back and forth to find the sweet spot. ### 4. **Practice** - Start with small lifts to get a feel for the balance point. - Gradually increase the height and duration of your wheelies as you become more comfortable. - Practice regularly to build muscle memory and confidence. ### 5. **Safety** - Always wear protective gear. - Start in a safe, controlled environment. - Be mindful of your surroundings and avoid practicing near traffic or obstacles. With time and practice, you’ll improve your wheelie technique and be able to hold wheelies for longer distances. Stay patient and persistent!

Everything was great except the keeping your arms extended part. You always want to keep them slight bent because you need to constantly adjust your weight transfer. Cant do this with straight arms, same thing as bending knees on a skateboard. No one skates standing straight up with locked knees lol
