You've talked before about the benefits of killing enemies rather than evading them, although both of them fit under the umbrella of enemy management. Specialization definitely helps for consistency, but there's more generalists can help with movement issues. Having to keep investigators together means potentially more actions get spent on movement (except that Safeguard is exceptionally good). Splitting up, or at least not having to spend 1-2 actions a turn running in to save the cluever, means you can spend more actions advancing the game state. Although with less focus, those actions will likely be necessary.

It's a great card at level 0. But it obviously can't beat some of the sick cards, Mystics get at level 4 or 5. Also Arcane Research is the best level 0 card, actually broken.

Really strong video - Innsmouth adds a further twist as there is cross-role synergy in how you use bless or curse. Top unexpected investigators in each role: 1) Mandy for support - you described why in the video, but there’s no feeling like playing a turn one no stone unturned 5 and telling a friend to go get any two cards they want. 2) Rita for generalist - particularly in 3 player, with pilfer and it’s upgrade as well as breaking an entering and belly of the beast, you’re good for several high-shroud clues without deviating from a focus on foot, and while you can’t quite hack primary killer, your ping damage and ornate bow make you good enough to do a lot of damage. 3) Akachi for fighter - once you upgrade to Twila, your charge using damage spell never runs out, and you’re strong in both defensive stats. Much less setup than most mystics as a result; pack azure flame and Armageddon and shriveling and you’ll very likely hit something to last until you draw the next. 4) Cluever Finn - not a huge shock and could be Trish, but both can really handle a lead clue role as well as a flex, either big money into Lola Santiago or just lockpicks and skills. Even Preston and parallel Skids are getting strong enough to lead clues for a trio. Combining your how to win videos is the real art form!

I would like to share with you a video idea for your consideration: How is the game different when playing: Solo / 2 players / 3 players / 4 players And maybe, what are the entertaining/fun elements of each format compared with the rest? Which are the challenges in each case? Which is more difficult? I am always playing on my own with 2 characters and I would like to know what I am missing. Thanks for the great work, your stuff is superinteresting!

With more players you get to express the core of the character more but also have some challenges to be really good at what you focus on. You can build to be really strong in your strengths rather than mitigate your weaknesses, which is fun in its own way. Gets harder to be a good generalist or to leverage 4s in primary stat. But movement is less costly, someone can burn actions to open a map to allow sixth sense or other tricks. Also cancels - especially for ancient evils - go up in value; a non-boss enemy might cost 3 actions from a fighter, but evils is 12 actions in 4 player.

Such a helpful video. This helps me make sense of in-game priorities, deck building and team dynamics all in one. My wife and I are new to the game and since we don’t know anyone who plays Arkham, your videos have been so helpful. We’re still getting owned by the game, albeit less and less each time we play. This one has been my favorite, so far. Great work. The slides are so helpful!

I'd really like to see a video on "properly building generalists" with considerations for team comps. For example you mentioned a generalist should lean 1 direction (e.g. fighting for 3 player). In addition to their upsides (e.g. situational flexibility), I think generalists have hidden downsides like "icon spread", difficult player positioning (e.g. do they sit on top of the cluever?), or difficulty measuring efficiency. One thing I really struggle with is selecting arcane (mystic) and hand (rogue) slots assets for generalists. For example do I take 2 handed rogue weapons? Or do I run lockpicks? Cheers!

@Itzli8

I agree. I'm still very new to the game and have found Wendy the least viable of all of the core set investigators. How exactly does she work?
@ALostExplorer
2 жыл бұрын
@@Itzli8 I hope you don't mind reading a long wall of text: I think given two core sets, Wendy should be viable in Night of the Zealot. But it also took me a very long time to understand how she's supposed to play, so let me do my best to help. Wendy doesn't play like the two most straightforward/'traditional' core investigators: Roland (Combat) and Daisy (Clue Gatherer). Instead, she should be understood as a 'tank' investigator who has the ability to have big, combo-heavy, game-changing turns.... while having others turns that doesn't feel like she's doing very much (so in Playing Board Games terminology, maybe a flex?) Both ability and willpower treacheries won't faze her as much given that she has 4 in each skill, and she has enough agility to take enemies off of her teammates and exhaust them for a spell. The trade-off is that she can't advance the game-start consistently without card support, so the onus is on the player to provide her cards to help her in that regard. If you're out of ideas, here is a sample deck that really served me well in Night of the Zealot, at standard difficulty: arkhamdb.com/deck/view/1748918 It builds around Leo de Luca's extra action by giving Wendy other cards to make each action successful. There are plenty of skills for her relevant stats to make her pass skill tests, and inexpensive assets and events that can hit the table even after Leo enters play (and maybe cover for him from the occasional Crypt Chill). Some of these cards help with card draw, which can help with drawing cards you need, or can power Wendy's ability to re-draw tokens after discarding a card. There are two sneak attacks for the rare instances that you want to do damage. From the start of each scenario, you want to mulligan aggressively for Leo, and hope that a flashlight is not too far behind. This is your bread-and-butter setup where, until your flashlight runs out of charges, you can move to most locations and investigate. Consider dumping cards you don't think you'll need (like the second copy of Leo or Leather Coat) to re-take tests, and commit perception with the flashlight for the harder locations (or just commit perception to save charges). You can even consider dumping/committing event cards if Wendy's Amulet is in play or in your hand. As for 'combat', Wendy is mostly reserved for briefly stunning enemies by evading them, with the hope that doing so could buy time for her teammates (in my case, Roland, who is her recommended partner). Or she can just engage an enemy and take damage to keep the other investigator healthier; that's the definition of a tank character. For upgrades, you are looking for 2 copies each of 3 cards in particular: Upgraded Leo, Close Call, and Will to Survive (for a grand total of 12 experience over 2 scenarios). The first card can free up one resource for other assets and events, Close Call is a better enemy management tool than Sneak Attack, and Will to Survive combines with Leo De Luca to create one of the nastiest combos in the early years of the Arkham Horror Card Game. It's 4 turns to do almost anything you want without committing cards, 4 turns to do virtually anything you want if you DO commit cards, or any combination thereof. I won't spoil it, but in The Devourer Below there are a series of skill checks that you need to do to reach one good resolution in the scenario. I found Leo De Luca + Will to Survive to be absolutely essential in that final push. All in all, Wendy with two Core Sets (or 1 Revised Core) can absolutely work in Night of the Zealot. It's just that she requires setup to be at her best. You'll need to learn which cards you should dump to power her special token re-draw ability. But when she hits her stride, she can have that one turn that can win you a scenario or a campaign. I hope I have pointed you in the direction of how Wendy could be effectively played.... But just because she's all that, I don't think it means that she's a 'clue specialist'!

For me it is yellow get clues. Blue kill monsters. Green slow monsters down, grab resources, and kill some when able. Purple generalist because magic let's them do whatever. Red can't say I don't really play red much. I think yellow and blue are must haves, purple next, then green, then red for me personally.

After playing an all green campaign now, my friends and I have noticed a testing matters build that Winnifred and parallel “Skids” have. Both of them using cards like Nimble, All or Nothing, Opportunist, and if it wasn’t banned Double or Nothing. And having assets that that feed into that idea like Lucky Cigarette Case, Liquid Courage, and Cat Burglar. It makes a great generalist build with Mauser C96, and Lockpicks. And can has build paths into Beretta M1918, Lucky Dice, and some fun skills. Events are where that particular build path suffers. Any suggestions?
