I'll say it again, every time I see those colored combos I'm like a deer in the headlights, kinda' mesmerized. The green reels seem to match the color on the rods the best. Can't hardly take my eyes off 'em. The green just has more "pop". Wonder how chartreuse would look? I could easily watch a couple of videos with the camera set for close up viewing where you show each model, casting & spinning and talk about them. Show the first prototypes and how the second differs, talk about the actions of the rods, the guides etc... How you upgraded the handles. Maybe pop apart the casting reel & show the new brakes, show if the spinning reel is balanced well with a little or no wobble, how far the handle can rotate if you let it go, will it stop just once per turn or is the "ratchet" on the anti reverse finer. How much line they hold and so on and so on. I love that stuff. I wonder if one of your sponsors could work out a free spool of line to ship with them, yeah, I guess that would probably be a complicated mess. And Yep, It's time for me to shut up, if you've read this far you're shakin' your head goin' who is this guy and how many times did his mother drop him on his head?

Good tips, I bought a spool of Vicious high vis crappie line 6bs test.fipor my spinning reel. It was the most frustratingly difficult thing to load the line. The spool has a notch on both sides to lock the line end into when you don't use it all. Thats a wonderful idea but this spool has it on both sides and the line would not come off with out snagging in the notch. The only way to unspool it was like a baitcaster and level wind it, gurrrr.

A tip I recommend to prevent braid from "free spooling" off the reel: Because the spool itself is pretty slick I put a quick layer of electrical tape on the empty spool before adding the line. A single layer of the rubbery texture of the tape is enough to give the braid something to bite into. No need for a first layer of mono which also works. :) I find this is necessary when: * I'm using light tackle. Retrieving the lure doesn't allow for enough pressure to hold the braid tight to the spool. * When there are pretty steep variations in temperature. The metal in our spools likes to contract reducing the friction between line a spool. Honestly, this is an issue up north where i'm at.
@TwinEagleRanch
4 жыл бұрын
You are exactly right, Sam, several folks do that! I actually have never tried it, but use the half hitch instead! You are right about the spool contracting too! When I get up north in the winter,, that’s not all that contracts!! Lol. My motto in the winter is Go South!! Thanks a bunch, very helpful. God Bless!! jimmy

Good video. Speaking of rods & reels, I saw an interview where you quipped that you'd fished with Roland and first he'd knocked a $400 rod and reel over the side of the boat and then later, to add insult to injury, he broke about a $300 rod?! I hate to say it, but that's kind of hilarious. I also wonder what kind of bottles those are up on the shelf with the NASCARs? I was cracking up at the start of the clip, you're nonchalantly talking about the new Blaze series and there's a damn bear on a log in the background! Oh Lord, I wonder what's in the bathroom, an alligator, or perhaps a hippo? You are one entertaining fellow. I was also cracking up when the camera operators fingers kept slipping into the bottom left corner of the frame. I really enjoy your channel, it really has improved since you first started. Well done.

1:23 "not very good light in here" while wearing sunglasses wtf...lol After all these years I have a lot of respect for Mr Huston, but in this video after decades of spooling rods he's teaching folks Bulls--t, do Not spool like this unless you want twist , braid can take being spooled wrong, but flouro or mono will give you problems.

Thanks for you criticizing, Mr Knick’s. (except for the childlike language)! We have lots of youngsters in here, we need to set a better example! I apologize for doing it wrong, never had any line twist this way!! Obviously, I have a lot to learn and am willing Please show me the correct way in a video. Thanks so very much. May God Bless. jimmy

I was thinking hows he not know that braid is going to slip if he just puts it on the spool like that with no tape backing but then you ripped out a couple of half hitches. Nice work new trick learnt. Ill give you a tip also...if you take off sunglasses inside the light gets better...everytime...lol.

Dark in here ? You are wearing sun glasses Jimmy. Suggestion: After spooling, let all the line out behind the boat, while at trolling speed. The waves will knock out any twists or kinks, no matter how you spooled it. However, the easiest way to spool a reel is to get the guys at Bass Pro Shops to do it for you. They have a variety of bulk lines and they do it cheap. Don't stop doing tournaments Jimmy. Hang in there.

The fish don’t know if your combo cost $50 or $350. Young angles need to worry about technique and time on the water not how much their rod and reel cost. Sure if ya fish everyday or fish for a living you want to invest in top of the line equipment. If your just out having a good time with friends or family save that money for gas or food to spend more time on the water.
