I had the same thought you had about in remaking a similar wood wall art. Being a complete amateur, it's good to see what steps that others with more experience might do the same/differently. I laughed when I watched you attach the sander to the sawhorse because I did the exact same after sanding about 30 of those blocks manually. I'm guessing you knew better to hold a firm grip because I didn't see any fly across the room like many of mine. HA. But I slightly cringed when I watch you turn the board over after gluing the pieces down because I expected them to fall off. I waited a full 24 hours before picking up the board and realized the glue was strong enough so I ended up not nailing, saving a good bit of time. Your art piece looks awesome!

Great great video! Some questions: what kind of wood did you use? I used spruce wood but the graining was very light while yours already had a lot of contrast before the burning. Also I tried burning the wood with a cheap butane burner and failed miserably, then I looked up the piece of equipment you use and it's like 100 dollars versus my 15 dollar burner :D. Also my wood splintered quite heavily so I'm thinking of buying a 80 tooth saw blade instead of my 44 tooth one :/

This turned out beautifully!!!. You deserve a medal for your patience. One question: is it essential to use brad nails + wood glue to affix the pieces to the board or could it have worked with just wood glue alone?🤷🏽♀️
@TMPK
Жыл бұрын
Never been accused of being patient 🤣 The glue would have been fine! I wish I hadn’t done the nails due to all the comments about how I should not have done nails 😑 Also I receive a lot of comments that I should have cut the angle on the table saw, then I could just cut all the pieces out straight on the miter saw. VS turning the miter for every cut. Probably a good idea.

@@JenEricRalston someone else commented that idea and it blew my mind lol 🤯 I don’t think there’s anyway my mind could have thought of that and it’s upsetting. but I would definitely do it that way next time. This might be a very stupid question as I've not even plugged in my first miter saw but... is there a reason not to put a stop block set for two inches rather than aligning to a pencil mark? Do you only use one specific degree of angle for all cuts alternating between that and zero? Would staggering blocks at different angles and varying depths at to the style or just make it look a mess?
@TMPK
Жыл бұрын
Sure a block would be fine. And different angles might look cool, but I haven’t done it. Several people suggested doing the angle first with the table saw, then I’d only be cutting zero on the miter saw. I’d probably do that next time.
