I’ve just started using the outline process before I saw your video. The three acts into 7-8 parts and then each part into three “acts” is a great idea. I just get way too wordy with my outlines.

Great information. I do two things: 1. A brain dump of all my ideas onto paper (Word doc), 2. High-level outline 5-10 lines, then 3. Fit the brain dump into the 5-10 line outline, 4. refine until finished.

Normally I just get ideas maybe while I'm walking so I write those down as just ideas them later when I'm home that's when I restructure everything the way it supposed to be. Great video🔥🙏🏽

I just recently started using outlines on my first script. I like it, but you answer your question. I normally just start writing skip most of the preparation work.

First, I want to say thank you and that this video is very informative. To answer ur question, I am a beginner in writing screenplays, so I prefer writing the script before the outline. It is working for me right now but I can’t wait to see what the futures holds.

I like jumping straight into it. But then I've also heard structure is really important and knowing this as a beginner screenwriter I'm torn as to what I should do. Do you have any instructions?
@rezaman2080
Жыл бұрын
Best advice that works for me is to simply go with your intuition. Wether it's simply jumping straight into script (details) or structure (overview), just play around with it. You will figure out what works for you. Sometimes just writing cool moments, scenes, little ideas that inspire you and are fun can catapult you further... Then again, you might want to work on a simple synopsis to get an idea on the bigger picture if you feel you lost. I was working on an outline for for a few months until I gave in to my craving for simply writing script pages, which I love. And most of the time even not knowing what I'm gonna write, things start to appear. Your stillness, presence and openness for ideas to come as you sit down often functions as a "flashlight" of awareness in the dark unknown, revealing more and more of what the story "wants" to be... And -- as Stephen King wrote in his autobiography -- you are simply the brush gradually dusting away to discover what the (dinosaur) skeleton -- the story -- will be. Good luck! 🙏💫

Super means like a text on screen so the kind that tells you the location, year or time period. An example would be in captain America civil war where we meet Peter Parker and it says “queens New York” that’s a super

Try to take part in Pitching festivals. Be good and surely you will find executives and producers to show your work if you stand a great place in the competition or the festival. Good Luck 👍

it is hard to believe, after maybe 200,000 years of story telling, that it got that much better after 1990 thanks to Hollywood. I'm not saying that this structure and process is not useful and good, of course it is, but the famous William Goldman quote is still flying: 'nobody knows anything.' I can't help but feel that a story which is fully alive from the start is not necessarily going to go by the numbers. But yes, I am going to do this homework.

If you are so good at writing scripts, why are you not famous… It is always the ones who dont do well that ends up trying to teach the ideals.

While these videos can help some, one should always take them with a grain of salt for sure. What do these 'youtube teachers' all have in common? They all have something to sell. So are they really teaching, or just smoothly directing you to their product? My personal process is to "outline" something when I'm not feeling particularly inspired at the moment, but if I am, I jump straight into it instead. What do I know? Nothing. Just find what works for you I say 😉

Some people would rather teach than be famous. Some people try to sell a script but are never taken seriously, or producers think they know best. There's plenty of terrible movies out there, and many many talented people are trying to break into the industry but are shut down. Take the live action series Avatar the Last Airbender. The original writers had to leave because the producers wanted to do it their own way, and the new series hasn't stayed true to the original story. You don't have to take this channel's advice, and you certainly don't need to leave a comment as you did. 🤷🏻♀️
