CANNOT describe what a critical hit this series is. This is also a level-up even compared to your previous vids with the discussion of what we're all HEARING when we're playing. Keep it up, man. This is something special.

With the boom of "X Composer Reacting to Y Game's Score," I hoped at least one of them would do something like what you've done here: A discussion on how musical ideas support the narrative (or even mechanical) components of a given game. Good stuff!

I appreciate it! There's always so much that goes into these games I always feel I'm barely scratching the surface, but it's just cool to get the opportunity to engage with others that are also interested in exactly what you're talking about here. Thanks for checking it out!

That was some good stuff, feels like the breakdown was at the right level of detail for me to get some useful info without getting bogged down in the weeds. I'm thinking about how I'll do the soundtrack for my game in the near future so this is pretty insightful, thanks.

Glad to hear you were able to take away some useful info! If you're comfortable sharing any details, I'd be curious to hear more about the game you're working on and how that's going. Either way, cheers!

For more melodic sections where its not just ambiance, get the free Synth plugins by Noise engineering(sinc vereor and virt vereor), and apply lots of delay and reverb to it, and do some mysterious sounding arpeggios.

Great video. Me personally, I would’ve added more elements from halo 2 and 3’s soundtrack, as this game’s ost really is like those 2 combined

You know that is a pretty awesome find! I noticed in a video I watched doing research for this episode (kzitem.info/news/bejne/k5CHmo1qmqBomYI) there was a synth but your comment made me realize it was an ms20. Great stuff

Such a simple tune but so effective paired with the themes and ideas of the game! Really great series enjoying it so far, wants me to try something similar - little lacking on the theory side right now (am learning!).
@steed1364

Happy to hear it's a source of inspiration! I personally find theory to be useful or useless depending on the situation. Sometimes it helps, and sometimes thinking about it too much gets in the way (and I don't consider myself a theory expert by any means). For instance, when I was constructing chords for this one I just ran with the idea of the chords expanding like a metroidvania map - and I still haven't analyzed the theory to understand why the chords "work". Other times, I'll methodically construct chord progressions. All that to say, don't let the fact that you're learning prevent you from having fun making music - hope that was helpful :)

This is so cool! Going to watch all the others now. I recently did the OST for Starstruck Vagabond which I made mainly with my OB-6 and Moog Grandmother, my first score leaning heavily on hardware synths. Was a lot of fun!

I knew I recognized that name from somewhere - I still have a few songs from The Turing Test on my spotify playlist! Loved the piano work on that soundtrack. Awesome to see you're still scoring and now I'm stoked to checkout Starstruck Vagabond's OST as well - especially knowing the Grandmother is present!

Come to think of it, most of the lead synth stuff on the BPM: Bullets Per Minute OST is also my Grandmother. I didn’t own the OB-6 back then

@@SamHoughton Added to my list as well! There's something magical about knowing an OST was crafted with a synth I've played with my own hands before. The Grandmother was my very first moog a couple of years ago and I was obsessed. The spring reverb on it is just *chef's kiss*. Eventually traded it to fund a Matriarch but I was heartbroken they didn't keep the spring reverb on it.
