Hoover shifted overnight, going from an isolationist to supportive of the war. Roosevelt, already president and supportive of the Allied powers, pushed for a declaration of war the next day. Both Truman and Johnson were already in congress. Both were already hawks and voted for the war. Johnson, who was only 33 at the time and a Lieutenant Commander in the Naval Reserve, was shortly thereafter called to service. He remained in Congress and was sent on missions to report on the state of US forces. Eisenhower had been promoted to brigadier general two months prior, as the US Army was being built up in preparation for war. By the end of the war, he would become Supreme Allied Commander in Europe and command the invasions of Sicily and Normandy. Kennedy, 24 at the time, had joined the Naval reserve a month prior. He would command cruiser ships in the South Pacific. Nixon, 28, joined the Naval Reserve and spent the war on the logistical side of operations. He never saw combat Ford, 28, immediately joined the Naval Reserve. He served in the Pacific theater as a navigator and gunnery officer. Carter, 17, was a student at Georgia Southwest College. He would transfer to the Naval Academy in 1943, but didn't graduate until after the war was over. Reagan, 30, was already an established movie star and member of the Army reserves. He became a public relations officer in the Army Air Force and spent the war creating both propaganda films and over 400 training videos. Bush Sr., 17, was a student at the prestigious Phillips Academy. The day he turned 18, he enlisted in the Naval Air Corps, and would become one of the youngest pilots in American history. He flew 58 combat missions during his service. As for every president's personal reaction, that would require more than a cursory wikipedia search. I'm sure most of them spoke about it at some point or another.

@@charlesevanshughes3638 Herbert Hoover wrote a massive _magnum opus_ blaming the Franklin D Roosevelt administration for deceitfully provoking and allowing the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor for self-serving reasons, while FDR had for years been simultaneously weakening US armed forces' preparation for war. Hoover charges that besides FDR's epic ineptitude and corruption, the Roosevelt administration was also heavily infiltrated by Communists, which led to FDR giving Stalin everything he wanted to expand the Soviet Empire across Europe and Asia-trapping hundreds of millions behind the Iron Curtain, enabling the rise of Mao's Red China, and leaving much of the world under mass-murderous tyrannies worse off than before FDR's "Arsenal of Democracy" warmongering-followed by decades of needless Cold War that ensued (with terrible consequences to this day, Russia clearly still not over its loss of the USSR and Warsaw Pact). Hoover's final drafts completed c. 1963 shortly before his death, the Hoover estate declined to publish the work until 2011 when the _Hoover Institution_ published the 957-page book as _Freedom Betrayed: Herbert Hoover's Secret History of the Second World War and Its Aftermath_ edited by George H Nash.

If Reagan wasn't watching the television and didn't see the attacks live, there's no doubt in my mind that Nancy and his staff wouldn't have told him. Even if they had, I sincerely doubt it would've really landed with him. Say what I will about Reagan, but he had a very comforting voice. I would've liked to hear his words on this event.

*Reactions from potential future Presidents (At least those who seem to be popular with the online crowd, so, take this comment with a pinch of salt.):* *Kamala Harris:* She was serving a San Francisco's Deputy District Attorney at the time of the attacks. "I remember when I first learned about what happened on that fatefull flight. What happened on flight 93, told us then, and it still tells us, so much, about the courage of those on board and gave everything they possibly could, about the resolve of the first responders who risked everything, and about the resiliance of the American people." She also would go on to compare the 9/11 attacks to January 6th, how they were both unjust and extreme attacks on the US. *Vivek Ramaswamy:* Note that this isn't a misquote, this was his actual reaction to 9/11. This one might be disturbing: “I think it is legitimate to say how many police, how many federal agents, were on the planes that hit the Twin Towers. Like, I think we want…Maybe the answer is zero. It probably is zero for all I know, right? I have no reason to think it was anything other than zero. But if we’re doing a comprehensive assessment of what happened on 9/11, we have a 9/11 commission, absolutely that should be an answer the public knows the answer to.” He is notably the only one of the possible future President so far to promote conspiracy theories about 9/11. *Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez:* Not much is known about her initial reaction to it, since she was still in elementary school at the time of the attacks. However, she did introduce legislation to allow immigrants who helped clean up the debries from the attacks gain citizenship status, as well as being opposed to the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, feeling that its creation wasn't necessary, a statement she still defends on numerous occasions. However, she has mostly avoided promoting conspiracy theories about the attacks, unlike Vivek.

This is an excellent, fact-based documentary short. Job well done on the thoughtful research and effort put into creating this. However, I must partially disagree with Obama's assertion that poverty in the Middle East led to the hijackers' fanaticism and extremism. Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind 9/11, came from a rich family.

All the former and future presidents seem to have reacted to that pretty well. I have never been a big fan of Biden although let me make this clear I'm not a fan of Trump either, but I really appreciate Biden's reaction of wanting to show strength in government. I also think it was great that he pulled the troops out from Afghanistan, but ultimately I was very disappointed with how the government there just gave up and let Al Qaeda take over.

@@jordansweet8054 It would be really rough I'm neutral on that incident, but the history behind it I would like to wonder their reactions be. Carter=Mostly in hospice care, and heard/seen it on the news himself upset by it. Clinton=Witnessed it, but denied to comment at the time probably feeling the divide would worsen. Jr. Bush=Disappointed greatly but can understand the emotional turmoil during such elections pends how people felt how his and Al Gores was in 2000. Obama=Did say somethings later on about it (but if someone can provide me some video references so I don't get my info wrong please link it below) Trump=Really tense during this moment, even if this protest is what his declaration of freedom of protest is, I feel okay with the fact he never wanted people politicians/voters alike to be hurt/killed, but didn't know the right words to stop the escalation without turning his voters against him, so he probably feels the same amount of guilt Bush did on 911, and thus to this day he's dealing so much from allegations whether true or not he doesn't want his campaign/presidency, nor the americans who voted for him to go down as seen as anti-american(we're all american every opinion counts, IM NEUTRAL) Biden=I think his immediate family and his safety could've been at risk, so decided to keep low till the investigation from both sides of government can conclude who won the 2020 election. After one year of J6 he did finally spoke/codemn those attacks. I was starting my Sophomore year in High School in MD, just shy of turning 15. I remember the principal gave an announcement to all teachers asking them to turn on the classroom TVs. Most students didn't have cell phones yet, so the majority of us were oblivious. I remember watching the coverage live of both towers falling and just feeling numb. I couldn't really comprehend what was happening fully and it didn't really seem to click that this was real life and not some fever dream. I really don't see how else Bush could have acted in that moment in a way everyone would have approved of. I mean, had he jumped up at that moment and started shouting orders and questions not only would he have panicked people but the media probably would have labelled him as manic and cowardly. All four hijacked planes were in the air at that point. I feel taking a calm moment to reflect and just process is how most of us would handle it. Especially only being President for a matter of roughly eight months.
