Travel and Resource Drain at higher levels: At level 4, a druid has 10 total spell slots worth of casting available (4x lvl 1 slots + 3x lvl 2 slots) lvl 4- 10; lvl 8- 27; lvl 12- 47; lvl 16- 62; lvl 20- 89 All of which comes back on a long rest. Spending 6 of those to Transport via Plants and bypass travel will always be a massively efficient deal for players. Even things such as spending 12 on three failed control water spells really doesn't put too much of a dent in the pool they have to work with (and that's only using resources from one single caster). A reasonable combat on the other hand can easily drain ~1/2 of the spell slot pool of all casters, and health from many of the party- and this can scale to keep pace with the resources players have at any level. Exploration in comparison has to do exponentially more to achieve the same level of resource drain. Exploration can of course be narratively interesting and resource drain obviously isn't everything, but whereas at low levels combat and exploration are comparable challenges, it becomes harder and harder for exploration to keep up and still be mechanically engaging without feeling either very long, or very contrived.
