My family and I saw Sonny & Cher first at the Assembly Center and then later at the Mabee Center, both in the early and mid seventies. I'm sixty-three now, just a kid back then and still remember the excitement of it all.

Looks like things were pretty good in Tulsa in the 1970’s! My favorite parts are the arrival of Sonny and Cher in the airport in Hugh Hefner’s jet plane ✈️ which they nicknamed big bunny and Merle haggard 🎶 singing 🎵 in another concert 🎵-btw -Cher is still doing well singing 🎵 and dancing 💃 at nearly 73 years old! That was a good film ! 😊😊😊😊😊

Yes, Tulsa was great if you weren't black, brown, or red.

I took swimming lessons at McClure Park Pool, I remember the “island” we’d swim to in the middle. Tulsa is famous for the “Tulsa Sound” genre of music. A fantastic place to grow up and go see live musical acts perform. We used to be the “Oil Capital of the World” until they moved to Houston, darn it.

Sonny and Cher arrived in Hugh Hefner's (Playboy Magazine) private Douglas DC-9-30 jet airliner named "The Big Bunny." Nice seeing Merle Haggard appropriately singing and performing the Bob Wills song, "Take Me Back to Tulsa." Thanks for sharing!

Haha well said! I remember hearing them, too! That’s also the place where we gathered on that hot summer day in 1976 to see “Frampton Comes Alive” tour, along with Gary Wright & Santana opening the show. It was Tulsa’s biggest ticket sales ever - at the time and what a show!! We could bring in our own ice chests filled with food - drink and blankets to sit on. I was seated on the ground very close to the front & was afraid to use the bathroom as I’d probably never make it back to my friends group, it was that crowded! There was a guy walking around taking pictures and telling us to “smile”, so wish I could see those pics, now! 😀

"My name's Mike Doonesbury, I hail from Tulsa, Oklahoma and women adore me!" But seriously, how can you show the fairgrounds but not show Bell's Amusement Park on one side of it? I miss Bell's. I also miss going to the TG&Y and Otasco stores that were close to my home.

That's when society collapsed...when Otasco stores began accepting "bank cards." Now, no one has any real money. No one can balance a check book, no one can balance their own budget, how can we expect the government to? If you keep all of your money in a bank, you don't have any money.
